So, our defensive coordinator and possibly our offensive coordinator are not going to hit the recruiting trail? This is interesting.

Doesn't mean they won't be in contact with recruits.

Sounds like other schools, including Penn State are already doing it this way. May not be as experimental as it sounds. Just new to us. Dabo adapting.

More coaches means another layer in the hierarchy. If you are at the top or the coaches hierarchy, you have to make room for those guys being added to the middle. Just as when a corporation grows, the top management becomes less involved in the day-to-day operations and concentrate on the strategic thinking and planning. Same situation with the football program. I guess since Dabo is the face of Clemson football, he isn't exempted from having to go out and meet the kids and families and giving the sales pitch.

In a sense it is similar to the buying a new model car decision.
Many are eager to be out front, impress their friends and neighbors with their purchase of a new model car, and then hope that the kinks had been worked out before the car hits the road. Others will wait a year or two to see what problems might arise … if any … in the new model car before making the decision to buy when Year 2 of production gets underway. The third category is the person who looks for an excuse to not buy the ‘new’ car model until it’s final year in production in hopes of getting a discount price for a soon-to-be-discontinued model.
The middle of the road conservative approach is usually the best. Dabo decided on the middle of the road path.

Great analogy.
This structure does make sense to me.

I'm guessing that will be done with official visits, if a recruit wants to have direct contact with the coordinators, he will have to schedule an official visit. That may end up being a good thing for everybody...

I would avoid making assumptions about how recruiting works today. Dabo and staff are close enough to see how NIL and rev share are changing away from relationships to transactions. I’ll bet they see on campus visits as much more valuable than the in home or high school stops. Dabo is still going on the road, and coordinators will still see recruits on campus and during Dabo’s HS camps for talent evaluation.

Totally. Think about it. The shift has gone from “Come to me and show me how bad you want me” to “I want to see and feel how you guys operate in person.”
Smart. Way more valuable.

My guess is that they'll hit the trail selectively. If there's a big time QB or DE you can bet those guys will be seeing everyone up to and including Dabo but that'll now be the exception instead of the norm.

Great example of how outside blood revitalizes an organization

Penn State was one year ahead of us as far as ‘saving’ coordinators for actual coaching + improving the organization of units (I.e., offense, defense) by eliminating their role as an in-the-road recruiter.
Tom Allen shared key aspects of how Penn State managed their football coaching organization; Dabo listened, thought about it, and ended up embracing the ‘new’ organization per the Penn State model.
This is not the behavior of a HC that is too proud to change. Instead of rushing into the change, he waited until there was a full year of actual data & real life experience with which to compare the ‘old’ way with the ‘new’ way. Shocker (to too many on TNet) - Dabo is indeed an excellent big picture executive. We are lucky to have him as long as he’ll have us.

Absolutely. Bravo. I have been very vocal about my concerns on this and he has proven that he can make the changes.
Relieved AF.

My thoughts exactly... Reading this article, I thought about it and was like wow that makes a lot of sense! He's the Dabo of the Defense.. Making sure every position group is covering things correctly to run best in his offense.

That all of college football should be following. Recruiting absolutely sucks and is a grind. If I were a new coordinator coming in I’d try to get that out of my job description too.

Heck, ‘old’ Ben may still have enough git-up-&-go to change places with a backup LB, put on the jersey, and demonstrate how tackling during live action is done.
OK, that will never happen (or will it?).

I like it. Especially in this modern arena it makes a lot of sense to let the coordinators coordinate. This also shows where experienced guys like Allen can make suggestions that Dabo will listen to because he knows they have a different experience and perspective. Everyone that said Dabo wouldn’t change has some crow to wolf down.

What a humble and cool person, I'm really excited for next year!
I like how he publicly recognizes his family's sacrifice, it's not easy moving around a bunch.
Go Tigers!
