I guess those rankings are accurate for starters and so there we are. BUT. What about backups? You mention a couple extras, but how about the whole backups as a squad so we can be objective? Sammy great, Pratt strong, RBs strong. The rest?

He gave the overall numbers for offense and defense. Are you just a negative person?

They are the backups for a reason. My bet is our new coach will have all of them improving as we go. I'd call our OL very much improved, but 2nd group is second group for a reason. I do see better performances in every position. I just hope, and I do believe, we continue with that marked improvement.

Give Cade an A+. You really can't grade the backups because they've been non existence. We saw more of Pearman in the spring game. 14 total snaps, most were against app st and 12 of the 14 were handoffs. Pretty much the same with Vizz. Saw him a little in app st, a couple series in the wake game but 54 mostly hand off snaps.
We've seen a few more of the running backs but not much past Haynes. Same with oline, mostly starters. So we have had ample time to rotate backups but for some reason Dabo's choses not to play them.
Guess we'll have to wait until we have injuries.. and hopefully we won't have any.

We both lost to outlaw school Georgia and looked like crap doing it, but y’all did it early making it much better for the programs viewing to the public. Plus, you didn’t embarrass yourselves by throwing bottles.

And yet Texas remains ranked higher. I guess wins over unranked teams just mean more.

Which wins are ranked better for Clemson? Clemson only has 1 win against a team with a winning record (UVA).
I understand wanting to elevate Clemson, but the 2nd half of season will show if we're truly contenders.

We still have the top ranked defense in the nation, so there’s that. We gave Georgia the ball in our own territory multiple times and if not for the defense we get smoked worse than we did. We deserve to be ranked top 5 but only because nationwide no has been that great this year.

I would say the improvement on the O Line has helped Cade and the skill positions tremendously. Coach Luke was a home run hire. Hats off to Dabo.

Imagine if we did that with defense. The o-line comments were the players just aren’t quality players. I always thought we had the best we’ve ever had. Except maybe some Danny Ford years. Those guys were just plain bullies. I digress, the defense isn’t a Jimmys and joes problem; it’s an X’s and O’s Problem. Bad fits. Late play calls. Playing not to lose. Hence the bad grades on defense.

I do think we are very thin at DE. But I agree otherwise. We really, really need to land some war daddies at DE.

Agreed. I thought we'd see a bigger jump from Hoffler this year at DE. He flashed a lot last year.

I would say the defense has looked great for the most part. The bad #s Have come in the second half with 3rd and 4th string in the game. With the exception of Georgia and then it was the 4th Quarter.

I would say the improvement on the O Line has helped Cade and the skill positions tremendously. Coach Luke was a home run hire. Hats off to Dabo. Isn't it funny how it all works together? Better O line play, receivers running sharper routes, and more decisive QB play make the on-field product MUCH MORE successful.

I think we are seeing all those things this year offensively, and I agree with you. I will say that the Defense has been less than I expected. Get that fixed, and we click on all cylinders, and this is a very special team, IMO.I think we are much improved now, but fix a few things, and we are back in the limelight.

I’ll admit I’m mildly surprised with the impact of Luke so quickly. I knew he was a quality OL coach, but it often takes at least a year or more for the result to show on the field. He’s done well.

He most certainly has, and I am so proud to finally say our OL is one of our strengths. I've been preaching for years to get that fixed, and lots of good things fall right into place. Go Tigers!!!

O line improvement is the biggest reason this team is having success. The Defense can still improve which is a good thing.

What a difference a year makes....offense holding up the defense for a change. Still a huge part of the the yardage and scored have come against the back-ups. Doesn't say much for our future and scares you for this year IF or WHEN the started are needed for 4 quarters - we've seen that movie once and it was not pretty. Still you don't feel this year that you have to hold the opponent to single digits to have a chance - keep rolling offense!
