I know the coaches shy away from IMG now after they’ve been burned so many times. I imagine they feel pretty similar about this program.

...to the press isn't a move that's going to be beneficial in his recruitment at Clemson. Wouldn't be surprised if that move results in Spiller having more time to recruit different players now.

What does he mean by recruit him harder? Never heard that one. Not impressed with his egotistical interview.

He deserves to be recruited but just like we would recruit any other student/athlete. Don’t understand what he means by “harder?”

Must see something off field (attitude/mentality) or know something (grades/measurables) that has Spiller taking a step back. Article says he's going to focus on grades (seems to allude to something there)...

Recruit him heavier? Sounds like he wants someone to kiss his @ss. He doesn't realize you can go to the state of GA, FL & NC and find a high school RB just like him. He's a head case in the making, who will never be satisfied. I hope CDS and staff avoid this potential problem child. He sounds like a perfect match for Lane Kiffin.

Need to stay clear of this kid. I know a bunch of people in that Broome program who have told me he is all about him. Definitely looking for the $$$. Seems like a great fit for the coots. Doubt once he gets in college you’ll ever hear about him.
Go Tigers!

Agree on that. Some folks come from a background where this NIL cash can become a generational change for their family and life. Plus, God forbid they get hurt in college. I guess a bigger look would be looking at does the money I stand to gain today outweigh my potential in the NFL. If the latter, then you have to think about what program is going to best prepare you for that next level [which is more than football skills, but life skills, financial skills, protecting the player and not over-using them (cough, Alabama) staying out of jail (cough, Jawja)...]

We really don’t know anyones heart, let’s expect the best out of people and trust our coaches to find incredible talent that fit the family.
Jaylen McGil Is very talented, hopefully he is “all in” no matter where he chooses to go.
These kids have huge choices to be so young, let’s pray for them and their future to be bright no matter where they end up.🙏🏽
CJ has taken coaching seriously and has done a good job so far, he was incredible on the field and loves the Clemson family!
The best is yet to come, let’s Go!

My take for what it's worth... this young man wants to be in the spotlight that Clemson provides when offering. We don't blanket offer every kid in the nation like other powerhouses, as I'm sure you guys are aware. An offer from us, or "harder recruitment", raises his stock value and potential NIL revenue. If he truly had interest in being a Tiger, we would be more than in his "top ten". Just sayin'

Ya see Humble, I can read your post, deduct what I perceive you're saying.. but without sitting down chatting, I really don't know. I write that because without being there talking to Jaylen, I can't say within what context he meant with that statement.
I hate there is such negative reactions to the story... I understand why because it does come across on the surface as a bad thing to say. He's our only listed target per T-Net for a 26 RB. There's a reason Grayson wrote and published this article.
I'm giving the young fella the benefit of the doubt. He's a local kid, so he knows more than most on how the Clemson process and program works. He mentioned that cj coached him hard (perhaps tough love) so I could be reading it wrong, but he may have been saying he desires more tough love and coaching from cj... which in that respect, it would be a good thing.
Will be interesting to follow. I'd love to see him be a Tiger.

I agree, I see value in HumbleServant® 's nuance and point, as well as some of the follow-ups.
Certainly want to give all these young people the benefit of the doubt as it's certainly an incredibly difficult/big choice for them to make at such a young age (money, future, family, etc.)
I bet it's hard for the Coaches to. They want confidence in players, but not entitlement. They also have to sus out the real motivations of these guys (for instance like aroseforthehall®, if they are trying to raise their stock for elsewhere).
And then on top of that like you said, Gal, Clemson is very tactical with their offers. So, maybe like he's aware of that and wants the harder look because he does want to be here genuinely but may need some improvement before and does not want to miss out.
At the end of the day, I am certainly happy I'm not in the Coaches' position of having to juggle all this in the Wild West of NIL. I'm also happy I'm not a parent of a prospect (though if that comes to fruition I guess that would be a 'good problem to have'?).

Agreed. These coaches spend so much time coach8ng and recruiting and they are away from their families and take criticism from fans and then they have to deal with little kids like this looking for attention

Maybe you should fire him, I’d take him in a heartbeat.
Regardless of your silly comment, he’s still a man and he still deals with garbage and he deserves the money if other coaches are getting the same or more.
Also, about his boys that many Clemson fans gave him so much grief over. He missed most of their childhood years because he was working for your school sometimes 18 or 20 hours a day. I don’t blame Dabo for wanting his boys around him.
No reason to be a jerk about it. Just because your jealous you don’t have to be making comments

It’s possible that other RB recruits impress Spiller and the coaches more. I am not sure if Dabo does it the same, but following Texas over the decades generally the coaches all vote on who to offer and they might not like him as much as some others. Or, the family thing might be an issue here. Like in the business world, you learn that you just can’t work with everyone and maybe Spiller and Dabo feel this kid isn’t right for the ‘family’.
Talented he might be, but you just have to pass on some. As a recruiting geek, I went to see a highly ranked WR out of Ft Worth a long time ago. The recruiting services called him the next big deal so I checked him out. Seeing live, and in person, you could tell he felt he was above his coaches and team. His attitude sucked and it was so obvious. Mack Brown had won a national title so he got lazy and didn’t do his legwork with this guy. As for talent, he was a low 4 star for me and I started making my own state lists when I was just out of high school, a true geek. Over the years, I’ve done well in my evaluations but who cares really since I never had a pay site on the internet.
He signed with Texas after one of those G A Y hat shows at the high school all star game. He played very little at Texas and became a locker room cancer before one of the good players beat him up one day. He transferred to Missouri where he was average.
I realize war is too important to leave to the generals, but sometimes we have to trust the coaches on these guys. Mack a brown got fat and lazy, but I don’t believe Dabo has and Spiller might have a better option, or a dozen better, out there.

at least based on the 2 articles we've seen on him so far. Not doubting he has legitimate athletic ability, but his attitude is very concerning. Seems very egotistical and self-centered, and only seems to care how much other people are willing to do to entice him. I don't think he would mesh well with Clemson's culture at all, and he might even do more harm than good. I hope the Tigers decide to pass on this one; this guy seems like he'd be a much better fit for Tennessee.
