I don't understand this point spread. This game will not be close. Think Clemson vs. OU 2015 or Clemson vs. OSU 2016. ISU has not seen a defense like they are getting ready to see, which will be as healthy as it has been since game 3. Offense finally figured it out, and the young receivers have taken over and are better. I think ISU is right on a level with Wake. That's how this is going to come down.

That certainly could be true, but Iowa State has faced two top-8 defenses by the FPI with Oklahoma State (3) and Iowa (8) and four top-24 units (Baylor, 15; West Virginia, 24).

I actually think the other way, thus ISU team is going to be radically different than the one this season with their attrition. Save for their QB. The will field basically a different defensive personnel and I am curious about their O. How deep are they? Their QB is good - either hot or not and can make the big plays (which gives us the biggest issue) but how will he be with different key support. Hutchinson-fantastic and their TE Kolar is good. If Purdy plays like he did against OkSU, we will struggle. If he plays like he did in the games that followed, we will be fine.

Interesting write up - both will have their challenges with all the changes and missing personnel - I think this will be good for Tigers - a real opportunity to ##### their base group of players and coaching changes going into next year - I think we will be motivated by the challenge - Go Tigers

ISU's D is better than USuck's and much better than Weak Florist's. Even without Hall, I think this is a close match up.

Wake's offense is better than ISU in my opinion, and that was with their star running back playing. In any case, I'm seeing a Clemson victory...

Good read. And reading between the lines, it looks like another opportunity for ground and pound ala uSC game.

I like our chances for 7-10 point win.

Brandon makes a good point, but they lost 3 outa' 4 of the games he mentioned -- just like South Carolina had a pretty good defense, but their offense had never seen a "'Clemson Defense"" and I think our ""NEW"" defensive coach Goodwin will be out to show us all, """WHY HE GOT THE JOB"" !!!!!!! _________ As will Coach Streeter and that trio of running backs, we discovered the last two games !!!! Go Tigers !!!

I think Hall looked at film of Clemson’s defense and came to the conclusion that he wouldn’t be padding to his rushing stats, so decided to just get ready for combines.

Dec 20, 2021, 2:46 PM

We know Clemson is being a bit punished by the polls, plus about 40% of ISU's offense is missing. I say Clemson by 13.

Re: TNET: Advanced Outlook: Clemson-Iowa State projections

Dec 20, 2021, 5:09 PM

I see no way that a 7-5 Iowa St team will stay within 14 pts of Clemson especially with their running back opting out. Brock Purdy is decent but he is not good enough to beat a defense like Clemson's by himself. I see Clemson winning this game something like 34-17 or so...

I agree. Did any of y’all watch the ISU v Iowa game. Iowa’s defense completely overwhelmed the ISU offense. It will happen again on the 29th. Go Tigers

crippling turnovers. Iowas offense was the unit that really got overwhelmed. ISU had a 2-1 yardage advantage in that game and, IIRC, held Iowa to 200 yards or less of offense.

I think we will win the game, but ISU has a good enough defense that we will not be able to just run over them like we did to Wake and SC. DJ is going to have to make some throws.

Re: TNET: Advanced Outlook: Clemson-Iowa State projections

Dec 21, 2021, 5:18 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Advanced Outlook: Clemson-Iowa State projections ]

Brock has been the most overrated player in college football the last two years. Always seemed to come up smallest when the lights were brightest. I wouldn’t be surprised if Dabo, underneath his aw shucks good ole Dabo appearance, he’s seething mad, at our ranking, and the fact that an unranked 7-5 Iowa State team without its star running back is a pick? This is one of those games that the national media create a no win situation for Clemson. We lose it and the headline is “Clemson loses to Unranked Iowa State who played without its star running back”. When they win it’ll read “Clemson ends disappointing season with a lackluster win against an Iowa state team who played without its star RB.” I’m an alumni and I’m a fan so I guess I am a bit of a homer, but this season was so tiresome as to how the media bashed Clemson all season. At times it seemed it was personal. Alabama plays a bad Florida team and squeaks by with a two point win and they talk about the swamp being the hardest place to play? They lose to an A&M team and the main stories are about Jimbo being the first asst to best Saban? The win by six against a bad LSU team and it’s Alabama’s defense rises to the occasion, and against a terrible auburn team it was gutsy performance by young rallies alabama against its toughest rival? Look back at the national headlines for the games that we won by close margins. You see narrowly escapes, you see BC miscues hand Clemson a victory, or Clemson slinks out of carrier done with win thanks to babers poor clock management and missed kicks. Or DJ stuns Louisville with late TD for Clemson win. Will shipleys late TD saves Clemson. I stopped watching ESPN because there seemed to be this overwhelming joy from quite a few of their personalities that Glemson was struggling. It was only two years ago that alabama was coming off a humiliating 28 thrashing loss in the title game to Clemson and followed that up with an 11-2 season, no SEC title game appearance and no CFP and the taking heads would say they’ll be back. Clemson had a lot to deal with, lots of adversity and sometimes we forget these are children. All the outside noise, the blogs about Clemsons ride is over. This is the end. Blah blah blah. The nine players lost to the transfer portal the injury after injury to key players and new ones, the talk of how our OC was awful as well and these coaches were never even close to losing this team. That’s amazing and that speaks volumes about this coach. But there willl never be a story about that. I’m hoping we go out and dominate this game. An absolute bashing of twenty of thirty points and we just bully them on defense. For the kids on this team. If we do that I’ll be curious to see where e we end up ranked. I’m sure based on the national medias hatred for Dabo and Clemson we won’t see any respect

"Clemson has had its fair share of run-ins with the transfer portal since September, while Iowa State is at 12 departures since just November (nine on defense alone)."

We still have plenty and plenty of practice is still needed. I don't care what Iowa State has. I think winning 10 games would also be nice.

Dec 20, 2021, 7:28 PM [ in reply to This bowl game is quickly becoming just a waste of time ]

It will be very much worth it especially with the coaching changes - even with little time to prepare in their new roles - seeing how they respond with “live bullets”.

This is a game that will allow us to get a 10th win and show the fans and recruits that Dabo has all this under control after all …

Let’s just have a 128-team playoff. Then we won’t have to watch any “meaningless” games!

Dec 20, 2021, 5:41 PM

money on both sides right? I agree we will win because we are better and Dabo will not tolerate the idea that we do not want to be there? 31-13 good guys.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am rarely one to play the "disrespect" card, but come on

Dec 21, 2021, 7:53 AM

I'm sure Iowa State is a perfectly serviceable team, but I find it hard to believe they're being playing on the same level we are. Even given our anemic-until-arguably-recently offense.
