This is not tampering. It is however pay for play which is not allowed. Until the player eligibility is impacted by receiving money this will only get worse. When we are openly talking about it the NCAA shouldn’t have to work hard.

Tampering is an unenforceable or dead letter law that carries no substantive weight outside of one’s personal ethos on topic.

What good are rules if they are not enforced and amount to suggestions? Only Dabos abide by something like this

No it's never enforced
And its not applicable here anyway because it only applies to players that have already signed their LOI, not HS recruits.

Many commitments will be less than a year.
One and done hoops players can show up in the summer and quit going to class on January 1, play hoops till March and then bolt.
Football players, that know they’re headed for the portal can shut it down during the season.
Chaos!

CF Players Union - THAT will be of some educational VALUE to players

WHEN the players finally organize a College Football Players Union, then EVERY college football player will get their DESERVED EDUCATION in business + finance + contracts + law + psychology + negotiation + statistics + ethics + taxation + presentation skills.
THEN, FINALLY, this UNIONIZATION will bring some ORDER to the EDUCATIONAL VALUE of college football.
I’m telling you that a College Football Players Union CANNOT HAPPEN FAST ENOUGH for me!
I’m not sure who is going to lead this UNIONIZATION, but if I had to put some money on it, I’d go with FLORIDA STATE!!

Greedy how?
Who's getting rich?
You think an 80000 seat stadium used only 7 times a year is cheap?
The money coming in is used to pay for those other sports programs that generate less money than they cost to run the programs.
The only ones doing well are high salary coaches. And they are paid based on merit/value set by a free market.

That's ridiculous. The economic benefit of football goes far beyond football. A successful program impacts the entire community financially. I have not seen one but I'm certain an economist has calculated the impact that Dabo has had on Clemson, the local businesses, the university, local real estate etc.

There are obvious economic benefits to all sorts of groups...the community businesses, the groups providing the uniforms, the other schools in the conference. Dabo, along with Saban, Daly, Smart, etc, are very successful and have brought in a ton of money. They are exceptions. Most schools actually lose money with football, if not for the revenue sharing. Its one of reasons fsu is trying to bolt. Clemson won the Natty for 2018, but a large portion of that money went back to the other acc schools. Clemson football has a huge ripple effect on the community and all those associated. Do you really believe uva does the same? Southern miss? USuC? NIL is a huge scam. It is based on the idea that these schools make a huge PROFIT off of their players name. The reality is most schools lose money

A union will not solve the students educational success. All it will do is pay another set of lawyers a bunch of money putting yet another $$ burden on schools. Just restrict the portal usage, graduation rates tied to total amount of players a team can have and then the 'student' athletes can make a 'hard' choice about their career.

because of all the random capitalization. Don't other students have to pay to go to school? I think some of them take on debt too, right? Maybe they should unionize too. Greedy schools making money off them.

Unions? What to make matters worse? Need a governing body that can be agreed upon by the institutions and can enforce the rules. What could go wrong with 18-22 year olds forming a union with the leader that may or may not have a players best interest at heart. Money is good in the short term but it’s when they get out of school with no pro contract and no college degree is what concerns me.

Exactly. Unions are for profit businesses. They will be just like agents. They will take their share of the payouts and won’t care a bit about the players. First time a player says he doesn’t want to attend classes, the union will support that and the education aspect will be gone altogether.

As I commented in another thread….I think college football is over and we are transitioning to semi pro football. It’s a sad time for those who love the college football of old.

spot on! Our universities have become prostitutes for athletes/money. There is so much money involved that they can't help themselves. The genies (portal and NIL) aren't going back into the bottle. Let us stop lying/pretending. I have loved college athletics but most of these guys are not "student" athletes. This is headed for contractual agreements for the athlete without a requirement to go to class and basically semi-pro teams. I guess the good news is the athlete could be required to play in all games (including bowl games) or be docked financially. Everyone will decide for themselves if they can be a fan of this. As for me, I'm out. I can't donate to IPTAY like I have for the last 10 years in order to provide scholarships to guys that are making that kind of NIL money. I appreciate Dabo's efforts at doing things the right way but it's a lost cause. Even Saban said recently that the current system is untenable.

How can these NIL co-ops and sponsors not place some performance conditions in their contracts that require participation in regular season and bowl games? If they are throwing money at these players without any requirements I don't see how it will last.

Welp, some of those "sponsors" are alums who simply want to get the kid to "commit" to their school. You have to get your foot in the door to have a chance. If it doesn't work out then the "sponsors" can move all and give the next kid a bunch of $$$.

Why even go to school at all if this is the end game. Form their own league and leave schools to the kids that want their education while playing football. Would be bad for us fans but mixing school in with contracts would further destroy what we all love, which is kids that may or may not go pro but love to play football.

Yea these bowl games are something else with multiple star players sitting out. Fla St has what 8 sitting? Just like the good ole days? Not the way I remember it 10-15 years ago.

This is a great example why my love for the college football is quickly to waining. Used to be that guys chose a school because of their love of the school, the same things that we loved, and now that’s no longer the reason; now it’s just as this says, they choose a school because of the highest bitter. No love, no loyalty, no passion.

Man were we sold a lying Bill of Goods. I could care less and what use to be college football/sports. This kids will not only be the downfall of college athletics. I more concerned they will take our country down wiyh them. NIL and the TP is taking competition out of sports.
And once you let the state and federal governments regulate anything bend over because you are screwed !
