There is an article on The Athletic about a new group

of executives and college presidents proposing a Super League of 70-80 schools to pay payers, collectively bargain, and increase revenue. Argument being the current model for college athletics is dead. The article is by Stewart Mandel and Andrew Marchand. I believe The Athletic is a pay site so I could not read it but saw this from Stewart Mandel's twitter.
FWIW.

This is likely what will happen but I’m banking on slightly more than half that number of teams.

The NCAA president proposed this months ago and spoke about it again this week

On Coach K’s Sirius radio program. The Athletic is probably just rehashing what he said on the air.

If part of the universities, how do they get around title 9? Also, if funds are used to pay football players, who, pays the freight for Olympic sports. Not doubting but lots of questions

Not sure what you're calling title 9. I guess all female sports. But you not only have to include those sports, this eliminates bball and baseball, as well as other male sports. What about soccer? Nah, I brought up this question in one of bretfsu posts. You'd have to go all in on all the sports or youd create a rift within the university as well.
This would be horrible. A disaster. A giant leap towards a nfl farm system... which is exactly what the nfl wants... and I'd hate to see it happen.

then they should create a separation from schools and some minor league team. They are no longer part of the school. If scholastics do not matter, then it's not part of the college system.

I’m not a great predictor of future well beings. I am all in favor of Clemson exhausting every effort to chase the dollars to be able to compete, by leaving the ACC.
However, remaining collegiate may not be apart of that.
That’s my only concern.

Same here. One day, the Academics, BOD, legislatures, whomever may say this is not in our charter.
However, one thing I did like about the proposed framework is promotion and relegation.

Sounds like there is the potential, as things stand now under the current

"system", that if a court case were to go a certain way in California players from prior to 2021, when the NIL came along, would have legal standing to sue for/receive retroactive NIL compensation. What a colossal mess.

It's comining but there are a lot of questions. Do all teams in this "super league" get equal annual payouts? And with the payouts, where do the universities fit into this model? The biggest question should be what's in it for the university? If they have to take their payout (with 50 teams payout to the schools most likely will be less) and pay for football expenses, all other university men and womens sports expenses, then pay the scholarship costs and salary to football players, what does the university get other than more administrative costs? And when does this salary spread to basketball and baseball and softball and ... ?
Where's the business plan/model or is this just another get a judge to say yes and then throw crap against the wall to see what sticks?

Originally, I thought that the "super league" would end up being 64 teams.

Seemed logical number to me. 8 divisions of 8 teams each.
But, with the changes in the last couple of years and it appearing the model was going to be the SEC and B1G breaking away I was thinking the number would be 48-56.
Here are questions that I don't know the answer to.
1. We all know that money drives the train. So, why should there be a super league of 70-80 teams if you could make it 48 or 56 or some number lower than 70-80?
2. Can you possibly get a group of people to agree on anything? Seems like the larger the group is, the harder it is to get agreement.
3. Changes tend to take place slowly and incrementally. Wouldn't it be more likely that the first step would be to establish a new structure with current conferences (B1G and SEC) still in tact, rahter than blow it all up and do away with the conference structure as we know it today?
But, if you did have, for example, 7 divisions of 10 teams each, here is who I want in one of those divisions.
FSU, UF, GT, UGA, Clemson, SC, Bama, Auburn, and two more (UNC/NCSU, Ole Miss/MS ST, TN/UK, LSU/??)
I want Miami relegated to the Sun Belt.
