He's got a great frame and is a good pass rusher, but scouts and observers say he's a work in progress vs the run. Not what we want to hear when that's the area at that position that we need the most help in.

Here's a truth bomb: He's better than ANYONE ON OUR ROSTER not named Parker against the run.
He's also played against elite competition in the B1G. So there's that.
I think he'll be a plug and play, instant impact player for us.

Because it's not as easy as you make it out to be. You keep thinking the portal is buffet where anything you want is available. It's simply more difficult to draw elite players her than it was 8 or 9 years ago.

I'd rather have a guy that's a work in progress against the run while being great as a pass rusher than a work in progress against the run while being limited as a pass rusher.

According to the analyst I watched that's not true. The numbers don't support it either. Other than TJ he had more tackles than anyone on our defensive line. As far as his pass rush, he played on a 1-11 team. I would assume he had limited pass rush opportunities while constantly playing from behind. Great get no matter how you slice it.

All scouting reports are that he's a beast against the run but needs to continue to improve on his pass rush skills and moves.
That is the exact reason we targeted him so heavily - his frame and ability to set the edge in the run game.

If he can tackle and set the edge, then I'm not too concerned about him. Tackling and setting the edge has been something lacking on the defense.

First we complain how our recruiting sux, our program is falling behind and we need to use the portal. Now we finally use the portal and the guy we get isn't what we need??
