Team Performance

There's been plenty of complaining that Clemson has no shot in the postseason. They can't hit, and cant pitch, besides Knaak and Bailey. Attached is a list of statistics by team in the ACC. You find that they can indeed pitch and that their plate discipline is pretty good. The team just needs to "swing the bat better"... and yes find another solid weekend starter (so far so good on Bailey). Also this is against very good competition. Plenty of room for debate. Here for it.

The picture quality sucks. So here's and excel file, if you care.

That's ok. You can see it good enough. I'd love to see this against national or top 25 teams. I put thought below but I posted before I said I like this team. I believe we're going to Omaha. Just not sure we'd do it if post season was today.

Thanks!!!

That's because you can't hit.

Personally, and I've posted several times about kudos to our pitching staff. They've won quite a few games for us. Especially the pen... and we've had to rely on them a lot more than we should. Our starters are not going very deep. That's with a depleted staff. Bell looks good. I was excited to see Samol, but maybe he just needs more time. His stuff is good, just wild. So, I think we have pitching to make a deep run.

Our fielding has been pretty solid. We've made some great plays. Paino has made some errors that were suspect, but you're going to have those days.

Hitting, we don't have what it takes for a deep run at the moment. We're a weak hitting team. Too many strikeouts and weak contact. That doesn't include our lack of homeruns.

Through the first half of the season, we've lived off freebies. Post season, or just take the coastal Carolina game, freebies disappear. We've had a handful of games against non tournament teams where we've gone off and had enough hits to score runs. We just don't seem to be able to stack hits.

Imo, paino needs to sit out a series. Give the young freshman a chance. Yeah, paino has our most hr, yay. Cam has shown flashes, but unless he adjusts and stands further from the plate, good pitching will continue to pound him low and inside.

Yes, being patient and drawing a walk is good. Pass the baton as coach says. But, Post season, you don't get that. I'd love if college baseball would have more non conference good games... even mid-week games with top teams like Tennessee, lsu, Florida, whoever.

Definitely have an issue with starters going deep into games. That has tested our bullpen and they've shined. If BJ sticks, and Darden can be more consistent, we'll have a good weekend rotation. There are only a few teams with elite pitching staffs. Only UNC and FSU are better in ACC and Tennessee and Arkansas elsewhere.

Hitting is another issue. I disagree with plate discipline because it goes back to the debate about who causes the walk; the pitcher or the batter? It depends but the team approach works as OBP shows. Not a good hitting team and the lack of power is surprising. We weren't going to hit 100 homers but so far an even 1/game is below everyone's predictions.
They have to improve to make a run. With the Yankees torpedo bat story and hearing some complaints about the teams bats, maybe there's something there.

Fielding is good and better than last year but not great.

They play UGA in a few weeks. Would love to crush them and get revenge on Coastal.
