Spectator or Fan

Just playing off some of the comments about dissatisfaction with the changing landscape in college football, I have to admit I am becoming more of a spectator and less of a fan.

I’ve lost a lot of passion for a sport I once loved. I will always be a fan of Clemson but with less enthusiasm for the sport overall. I don’t mind change but when play for pay and the greed and shenanigans that come with it take over, I find myself landing in the camp of disillusionment that Nick Saban and Tony Bennett found themselves.

What the NCAA, schools, and coaches were eaten up with prior to the court decisions that let the athletes share in the profits? THAT kind of greed? That kind of greed has been around for decades.

How dare the athletes that take the risks and that do the work share in the proceeds, right? 🙄🙄🙄

Referring more to the moves by the SEC and B1G to stack the deck and dictate terms for the future of what they want college football to become.

Yes, THAT greed. The greed that has consumed all of it and now including the athletes themselves who the mean greedy miserly NCAA, schools and coaches have been exploiting since the 1890's. That kind of greed that has virtually excluded those that had once participated in these events but can no longer afford the discretionary income.

The kind of greed that goes directly against the entire concept around which IPTAY was built. The concept of I Pay Ten A Year, because that's all some folks could afford. And in an effort to patronize not only a football team, but a school they loved, it was created. You could give as much as you wanted, but your seating priority was always based on years given, not amount. Until someone decided that $10 wasn't enough. Then $20 and $30 and so on. I have no idea what it is now.

And they built upper decks and boxes and horseshoed in the West end zone cutting off views of the lake and the mountains beyond. That kind of greed. Because the demand warranted it.

And as the Hill gets smaller and smaller I can bet that someone is trying to figure another way to squeeze a thousand or so more people into the Valley. That kind of greed.

Greed, for all intents and purposes, is good. Right? I think what the intention of the OP was asking if anyone still wants to be a part of that. Some will say absolutely, others will walk away in disgust. And yet for others, it's just not financially possible any longer.

I'm probably checking out CFP time, when it ends up being the SEC

I could not agree more. Knowing that our Tigers are at a disadvantage with nil amounts, tampering and what have you, what I cling to is my love for this wonderful university set "in dem hills". Nevermind about 3 natty's in football, 4 nattys in futbal, 2 in golf (cheated out of 1)and ... what a wonderful, acclaimed uni.
