But getting that program bowl eligible in his 2nd season is an absolute miracle. They were considered 1 of the bottom 5 programs in college football 2 years ago. He took his knocks for basically taking the entire team out and starting over, but folks lose sight of the fact that was what the administration asked him to do. They did not want a methodical rebuild; they wanted near instant results.
No one would relish having to do it the way he did it. But I still give him credit for actually pulling it off. I have never been a big fan of his personally, but I do respect the job he has done at CO.

With the money he has in that roster you think this is good?
He should be 8-0 with the money he has invested against this schedule.
Bowls are meaningless.

I responded to you in the other thread. If you consider just how bad they were (bottom 5 programs in the country) it is a good accomplishment for how far they have come. It has completely changed the financial picture for the program, the administration and the school. He has accomplished exactly what they hoped, in probably a shorter time than anyone would have imagined. They were not looking to be among the college elite; they just wanted to be brought back from the dead, and he has done that.

Colorado is essentially an expansion team. From 1-11 to 8-0 in less than two full seasons is remarkable.
Enjoy the sour grapes.

That will be challenging but again, that program was completely dead and at least now they have things moving in a positive direction. If you look at the impact on season ticket sales, recruiting, brand awareness, merchandising, impact on the community, enrollment, etc. the ROI has been tremendous. They put data out on this out several months ago, and then impact and changes for the positive were startling.
As I said previously, no one will accuse them of being elite, but at least they are back from the dead as a program, which was exactly what the administration was hoping for.

He is a showman for sure. Prior to this season, they have only had 1 winning season since 2005. They were also 4-2 in the shortened COVID season of 2020.
I'm just not sure folks fully appreciate what a dumpster fire this program has been for the last 20 years.

That dumpster fire did not have the money invested that they do now. They are not top 25 and have not beaten anyone. With his roster management I expected more to be honest.

You do have to remember that over 70% of his transfers are 3* or less. He has a handful of guys that he builds around and then has meshed the rest together to be competitive. You also have to remember that before he arrived, none of the decent HS players wanted anything to do with CO, so he had little choice but to almost exclusively use the portal, and it takes time to rebuild a reputation that gets the high school coaches and prospects to believe in you again. I'm sure he would prefer to field a roster that he could develop from HS, and he is making progress on that front, but it does take time to win back trust from a 20-year losing reputation.
According to this list of most generous givers to an NIL efforts, CO ranks 46 out of the top 50.

After Travis Hunter and his son the QB leave they will be back to bottom of the barrel imo. Do have to give him credit for the turn around this year but like previous poster stated, he will be like norvell next year, high expectations and not nearly good enough players to build or have another good year.

Can you really call it a positive direction though? This one season of success isn’t going to be the norm at Colorado. They haven’t built a program through recruiting and this little blip of success is going to be over after this season. The writing is on the wall. Deon didn’t build this team with long term success as his goal. He built this team for the the time his son is going to be there. After his son leaves this team maybe worse than before he got there.

The real test Deion Sanders faces will come next year when he has to replace the largest sources of his offensive production.....My prediction is this will be the last decent season Colorado has under Deion.

That could well be true, but he got them out of ICU and at least back on the road to recovery. No one else in the previous 20 years, when they only had 1 winning season, was able to do it. But this story is much bigger than that because of the overall positive impact to the university and the community.

Also in this new NIL era winning now is the goal. You are buying players that can make an impact immediately. A rebuild was not what he was after. You have to believe after getting so many out of the portal that he thought they would be a much bigger factor than what they have been. Speculation on my part in just listening to his interviews.

I think Deion has his goals but the university had theirs as well. I believe he has far exceeded anything the administration thought could come their way so quickly in terms of overall benefits.

Deion will probably move on after his sons are gone. He got them well compensated and exposure so he I believe accomplished what he wanted in the grand scheme.

I expect this as well. He wanted to help his sons for sure, but I think he has higher coaching aspirations too, and will have some suitors in the near future, whether that is college or NFL.

Deion buys his team every year so not a lot of respect for him on that front. He does seem to have good coaches and I'm sure he bought them as well.

observers, but they've done it through a complete change of culture, hard work, and determination. They have paid players, to be sure, but those players still wouldn't start for a lot of teams. He's gotten them to play harder, believe, and trust in his system. Maybe next year, it evaporates. But right now, if I'm a Buffs' fan, I am overjoyed.

Some folks will not look past Deion being "very sure of himself"! It threatens them in some way and that is unfortunate.
As you said here, many "not all" of his portal players were not starters where they came from. So, it's not like he has some All-Star team! I would also say this, "you play the schedule you have"! Even Clemson has struggled with teams we were far and away more talented than. But, most of the time over the Dabo years find a way to win.
Is it perfect? No it is not. Who can be held to being perfect though? Deion has said publicly many times he doesn't have all the answers(very humble statement for someone with such an arrogant public image).
I think many people "want him to fail miserably" and b/c he is not - it's frustrating to those people OP. Deion is kind of how I view Lebron James - "not really a fan" but you have to give him credit for what he does.
Colorado - to your point OP - was a complete and utter dumpster fire. And, folks Texas isn't the only state with money. The folks in Colorado wanted it turned around "NOW". Deon took the hit for it; but at least for the moment, he has people excited for Colorado football. Nobody is saying they are National Championship contenders with their band of "Non-Starters from other schools they got from the portal"! People are saying: "if you keep in mind where Colorado was - it's a good job getting that team this far"!
