Never seen us lose there in person. Probably good that I wasnt there for any losses in my teens and twenties. I’m more apt to let the obnoxiousness roll off my back these days.

it was like beating them twice that day! We were leading 24-0 at the half and the coots were leaving in droves! Then they came roaring back in the second half and when they took the lead with a couple minutes to go, the coots that were still there were going crazy! They knew they had won...we hadn't done anything the entire 2nd half!
But when Steve Fuller calmly led us down the field and Butler made that great catch for the winning tD, it was a dagger to the coot's hearts! And for the 2nd time that day, we had crushed their dreams!
I'll never forget that one!

And I tink terry allen had almost two hundred yards by halftime and I’m not sure if he played second half because of hamstring injury

My first was 1959. It was the very last Big Thursday game. After that we rotated home and away. I turned six the day after. My father took me for my birthday present.

Yes !!!! I was there and it was my first rivalry game in person !! I was 12.
As I’ve told many people, I was born into a Gamecock household. They dressed me up in Garnet and hauled me off to every Gamecock sporting event in Columbia. When I was little I idolized Jeff Grantz. But after attending that game I could never be a Gamecock.
I say that last part in jest, it was really the indignant attitudes of Carolina fans that put me off. …..That, and my best friends in the neighborhood were Clemson fans.
The first time I met Danny Ford it I told him how I grew up with them trying to make a Gamecock out of me but it just wouldn’t take. He asked what happened. I told him, “Free will. …..That and 1977.”
He just smiled. 😄

This was the infamous “No Cigar Today” game. Clemson had played at Georgia early in the season and Charlie Pell had remarked that if they beat the junkyard dawgs down between the hedges, they would smoke cigars on the bus all the way back up I-85. They beat Georgia in a low scoring defensive battle and true to his word, Charlie Pell passed out victory cigars on the busses.
That became a tradition that season as they’d smoke victory cigars in the locker room after each home victory in Death Valley. Rumor was that if they beat South Carolina in Williams-Brice, they’d stink up the visiting locker room with cigar smoke.
Watch the South Carolina sideline after their go ahead touchdown late in the fourth. They’re all pulling their jerseys up to reveal t-shirts that read “No Cigar Today”. We sat down low on the home side about the 20 yard line toward the south endzone, I recall seeing that. I also saw “The Catch” happen right in front of me.
Many people may not know this : Jerry Butler did not come to Clemson on a football scholarship. He was on a track scholarship as a high jumper.

I was there that day, and it was my first!
Crazy story: my date had left her ticket at Clemson. We had no idea how we were going to get her in. Someone appeared at the top of the end zone stands and yelled “here’s a ticket!”, and dropped it. It fluttered end over end directly to me! If you mention “The Catch”, there were two that day for me.
