Portal/NIL Question I've not seen asked....

but I'm not on 24/7 like some, so may have well missed it. Here goes:
Obviously, Clemson doesn't pull from the portal like other schools do, treating it as an athlete vending machine, basically. We all know that many kids go into the portal to try to get more $$ from other schools. We also know that Clemson has collectives that raise/pool such money.
So, the question is this - if we have $x million in NIL money with the various Clemson collectives, but we're not using that to pull high priced/big name players from the portal, what is happening with that money? I know none of you will know for sure, but I'm just thinking that it could be getting saved up in the event we ever need a big-time player, due to transfer or injury or whatever, or is it getting parsed out to other current players?

It's not within NCAA rules to offer NIL to entice a player to commit.

So we use NIL just like everyone else that are playing by the rules.

I would think that our NIL funds are being awarded to those on our roster today, those who bought into 'creating NIL value on the field' after actually contributing instead of using it to lure in those outside the program who don't buy in to Dabo's approach. Dabo clearly places more emphasis and shows loyalty to those already All In, not those looking in.
Many folks seem to forget, or simply choose to be unaware, that Dabo was a pioneer in NIL opportunities by helping launch an in-house marketing and branding mechanism for players to capitalize on those once it came to fruition. That program has since expanded to cover all of Clemson athletics.

Yes, but that's actual marketing and not pay for play which is what most of NIL is at this point.
Which everyone knew before it started...

Speaking of NIL, is there a congress hearing today on a proposal by NCAA Director Charlie Baker?

We are using that money to keep our roster together. Compared to other programs, we have very few 2-deep impact players leaving for the portal.
For example, Mafah was rumored to be leaving last year but we were able to entice him to say, allegedly with an increased NIL deal.

From what I’ve heard, we use the money to retain players that are already on the team. The players we have lost to the portal in most cases are moving on to other teams in hope of more playing time. There are exceptions, but this does seem to be our use of collective money.

Another related question I've wondered about

How does Clemson raise this "collective" money? I know some corporations participate naturally, but the average fan, does not seem to be involved. I am a LONG time IPTAY member and am involved in a few other ways with Clemson, but I don't think I've ever been asked to contribute. I know this woud be brushing up against the rules, but I imagine other "collectives" are directly soliciting their supporters for money. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's hard to answer the phone or open up the internet without someone asking for money these days. Not our "collective" as far as I see.

They went to 36 of our top donors and asked for most of the funds.

Outside of that, they've taken contributions from folks who have called them and asked to give.

Technically true, but they are directly connected. NIL is being used to entice players to enter the portal, then to recruit them from the portal. Both of which are against the rules but unenforcable. If not for NIL, the number of players in the portal would be much smaller.
And if not for the Portal and the immediate eligibility rule, NIL would be used more appropriately.
