Mickey,
A win is a win, I know that is so cliché, but it certainly applies here. In a very tough environment
I agree 100% with Julio, we are extremely luckly. I wouldn't trade Dabo or Brent for anyone. However I do feel like with the offense we have tried to carry over a lot of the offense from the Chad Morris days. Maybe our coaches don't 100% understand it or don't know how to adapt it to the talent we have. As far as the run game goes, going into the season I was telling people my 2 worries were replacing Dorian, and Crowder. Crowded was a beast, and had a total opposite skill set of Pollard. I would love to see Cervanka or Bockhorst get a shot there and see if we can get a little more push. One last thing I would like to see is more deep passes. With as many 6'3-6'4 receivers we have and they way they call PI these days we should throw deep any time it's 1 on 1 out there.
But our C and G were getting taken to the woodshed most of the night. I also think Elko will be a HC next year and is probably as good a DC as there is anywhere. That game might have showcased the two best DCs in the country on one field.
Trevor played better than most give him credit for and I still contend, even more so watching this team play, that we won’t win a NC without him (this year). OL, TE and S are weak and thin. Need better roster Mgt to get the numbers more balanced.
As for the coaching staff, I think Pearman is clearly the weak spot and while I love Caldwell, I think it’s time to move on from him. Also, Conn need to dial up his recruiting and position coaching as neither are “best” if that is our standard.
It is certainly a quality staff overall and they deserve credit for this majestic streak we are on but in high level sports, you have to keep pressing to improve every aspect.
