We must be using the wrong color paint? Or, you need a new TV?

I used to do maintenance for Billy-Brice. Their's has big brown or bald patches in noticeable areas the week OF their first games and they got SEC money. AND IT SMELLS LIKE DOO-DOO! I think our grass is fine in comparison.

I remember us having one of the best surfaces anywhere for a long time. I don’t know if it’s weather related or what but for the last 5 or so years it seems like it’s gotten worse.

I believe when the resodded it they used Bermuda grass

If I am correct that is what it still is Bermuda needs lots of sun. Late in the season as there is less sun it will start to go brown preparing for winter. Obviously it can be painted green, but I'm not enough of an expert to know how much paint may damage the grass.

Well, it’s not from lack of sun but when nighttime temperatures start to go down in the fall, the Bermuda stars to go dormant. That means it starts turning brown or straw colored. The kind of coloring they use on it is not going to damage the grass. I think our field a,ways looks outstanding.

We use to have, and I assume we still have, Tiftgrass Bermuda, on the field. After the first frost, Bermuda starts going dormant. Some overseed with new ryegrass varieties, and I imagine we do as well. Under heavy traffic even overseeing can get torn out so turf paint is then an option. It doesn't harm the grass, and can last several weeks. Maybe the pictures shown are in that period between seeding and painting, just guessing!

Meeting at the paw doesn't help.
Grass can only take so much. It's like having a bunch of extra games in one day.
Grass needs time to recover. Rye Grass could help but it has a tendency to be slick. The field plays better than it looks.

First ….. we have an outstanding turf maintenance staff and we have great grass fields. The great color and flawless looking grass in for television, not necessarily because plush green grass is the most healthy or creates better playing conditions. Fall season overseeding with Ryegrass is as much for tv as it is for field conditions, as when it is torn up during a game, there isn’t a lot of recovery time. They really playing on dormant Bermuda with the Rye for color. The Rye grass field that got so much bad publicity for the Super Bowl last year was just a case of total mismanagement, basically trying to get it as lush as possible for TV. Most professional that know grass knew they were making g a mistake.

A previous poster was correct that we have for years used a hybrid Bermuda variety developed in Tifton, Georgia. At one time I think we used T-419, the old standby for golf course fairways and ball fields (and it is still great grass), but now many fields are using varieties like Latitude 32, Tahoma 31, maybe Tiftuff, or others. All of them are good.
