Oregon and Washington must wait on Notre Dame to decide

Jul 2, 2022, 1:49 PM

Then the B1G will know for sure how to proceed with them. I think Clemson and UNC would be great additions to the B1G. They can let FSU and Miami languish or join the SEC.

Stanford and Cal don't bring much athletically and might dilute the TV revenue pie, but they fit into the B1G academically.

There's smoke that the Big 10 is waiting on answers from ND and Stanford - both are top 15 academic schools also, Washington and Oregon after them. It's obvious the Big Ten is after the huge TV markets which is smart and generate the massive payouts to its members. They now have the top 4 markets in the country in their footprint.

Well that would also add the San Francisco TV market therefore more money....Stanford & Cal that is..I would love to see Clemson get in on the money

I bet they would love even more planting the Big Ten flag in Atlanta and Miami.

So the question is...

Jul 2, 2022, 4:52 PM

For watching sports: Do people in Atlanta care about GaTech and how many in Miami care about the U? I really don't know.

Which begs yet another question: How many people in New York care about Rutgers? Rutgers is a very good academic institution. U of Miami is NOT. For GaTech, I have no idea.

I'm almost certain the B1G does not want U of Miami. Not a good fit. LOL, University of Houston (where I live) would fit better.

Miami oozes SEC. The Big10 would gladly take Miami.

They have a small enrollment, but it is fine academically.

People in Miami care about them when they are relevant. Similar to USC.

GT has Atlanta, great academics, and solid sports history. In the NLE/transfer portal era, they are going to struggle though unless they get picked by one of the two. I think they end up SEC, but they feel more big 10.

Clemson is not in the mix for B1G

Jul 2, 2022, 11:48 PM

ND plus Stanford is their top choice. They might stop at 18.

Next schools on their list are:
Oregon
Washington
UNC
Colorado
Utah
Arizona
UVA or Duke (only as package deal with UNC)

After ND/Stanford, my "next" list for the B1G is:

Washington
Oregon
Clemson
UNC

Colorado has been a flaming disaster for the Pac 12. I assure you they aren't in the mix for the B1G. The B1G regrets taking in Nebraska.

The Arizona schools have no chance of joining the "Big 2". Same for Utah.

UNC would not insist on a package deal for Duke because they know the answer would be a loud, "NO".

UVA seems unlikely to me but lot's of folks in the DC Metro area care about UVA.

Seems like the main end goal for the B1G for now is to finally get Notre Dame by dangling the carrot in front of them of their two biggest annual rivals on the West Coast (USC and Stanford). Whether they come south in the future remains to be seen but they would take UVA and UNC in a heartbeat.
