What is wrong with y’all?

1. We finished the regular season 9-3 last season. We are 9-1 now and vastly improved in most categories. Were we even ranked at this point in the season last year?
2. We didn’t win the division last year. We’ve already got a division title in the bag.
3. Of course our coordinators are going to struggle. It’s their first year in new roles. Did you really expect a rookie defensive coordinator to come in and equal the production of the greatest defensive coordinator in the history of college football? If so, you are a fool.
4. I don’t post much. I usually drop in daily to check recruiting updates and read articles and occasionally I’ll read y’all’s posts. What I’ve noticed is it’s usually the same 20 or so posters who have like 100k posts to their names that have done nothing but obsess over an internet web site for the past 15 years whose only goals in life are to get thumbs up and trophy posts. Those bullies are what’s wrong with tigernet. Hey bullies. Leave our coaches alone and for once, get a life!
5. I look forward to the continuation of this amazing season, the further growth of our new (under supported and under appreciated) coaches, and most of all the further development of our QB who has had zero support from us yet has not complained one iota and gives EVERYTHING he has every game DJ is not gonna be remembered as a legendary player, but he will be remembered as a legendary man. That is first and foremost what every parent sends their kid to Clemson to become and what Dabo delivers more often than championships. And that’s a lot.
I love Clemson. I love Our coaches and players. I’m sick and tired of you trolls ruining a great season by polluting this website with your extreme and unwarranted harsh words of criticism towards the people I love. If you don’t like the way Dabo wins, there’s a school in the the middle of the state that would surely love new fans.
Thanks.

We have become spoiled by our recent successes and we want to return to the time when we dominated most of our opponents. We seem to forget that we have new coordinators and some new position coaches this year. Inconsistencies with the QB1 has caused a lot of discomfort. We have continued to win in spite of issues on offense and defense. Just a weird journey the past two years. With all the turmoil, we could have a great year if we can clean some things up and finish strong. One game at a time. GO TIGERS!!!!.

Perfect take. I know this is out there but the advent of the there are no losers, everyone gets a ribbon world in every kind of sport has just taken over the younger generation. Every flag against us is wrong, every play that doesn't result in a score was called by unworthy coaches or executed by players that should not be on the field. I do not begin to know the answers but I just hope things change.

Valley Boy,
I don't think that you can lay this on the younger generation. I do not personally know the biggest, most irrational complainers on this board, but I suspect that many of them are of the older variety.

A few things.
Nov 14, 2022, 9:40 PM
|
|
1. This isn’t a great season for us. 2. We shouldn’t have to be patient with new coordinators while they learn. Dabo should’ve hired more qualified coordinators to begin with so that there wouldn’t be a freaking learning curve. 3. People gunning for TUs and trophy posts aren’t the ones complaining. They are the ones like you who think everything is hunky dory and only post super positive stuff all the time. 4. You shouldn’t let people on a message board affect you so much.

Not once did I say that everything is hunky dory. Only that I am tired of people not supporting our program and attacking our staff and that I see improvements. Obviously, Dabo hired internally to preserve our culture and to ensure Clemsons long term success. Maybe you can’t see the forest for the trees Judge.

Couldn't he still have preserved our culture by hiring more experienced coordinators or does everyone need a Clemson degree to apply?

Hiring from within, you really know the candidate. Culture fits are really difficult to find. AKA Christian coaches.

Also I believe Dabo tries to help in possibly jump starting some of these guys aspirations of making it big in the sport. Tommy Bowden in my opinion was taking a chance on hiring a Dabo Swinney and our AD took a bigger chance in making him the head coach.

Dabo is being paid (quite a lot) to coach an elite college football team - not to promote his particular religious perspective. If he is making christianity one of his hiring prerequisites, he is violating his public mission, the law and the US Constitution.
Did he refuse to consider the best candidates for the co-ordinator positions, based on his own religious biases ??

to come within a mile of the head coaching job here due to his "unqualified" status prior, and who of course feels Brad is the best we can do in basketball and any thoughts otherwise is ignorant nonsense. I would say her 'judgment' of coaches and the way they run their respective programs, at least as she shares her thoughts on here, is highly suspect and indicative of someone who has never managed or been in a position to actually hire people.
Brad goes through a revolving door of assistants regularly with nothing stellar to show for it on the results front. Dabo has cultivated a deep and loyal staff with opportunities to move up the team's coaching ranks and hierarchy as the top of the chain moves up and out to head coaching gigs elsewhere. Stubborn Dabo has clinched yet another division title in one of the more competitive divisions in the game and has us on the precipice of yet another CFP appearance, with two first-time coordinators running the offense and defense to boot. LOL - if only Dabo would do it the JK way.

I'd like to point out that Texas A&M, who are experiencing the biggest underperformance in the history of college football, have done everything the Judge Keller way. Embrace portal and embrace NIL. Not one penny spared to hire the best coaches and recruiters on paper. And one of only a handful of active head coaches to have actually won a title. I can see why such an honest and earnest fan of Clemson would want us to go that route.

So, what you are saying is good coaching does matter, and if it does matter that much, wouldn't it make sense to try finding and interviewing the best and most experienced coaches available to lead your team?

Perhaps this is a chance to put this into perspective. There seems to be a growing tendency (on this board and in the world in general) to want to put everything into one of two extreme boxes and then fight about it.
Oftentimes the best is in the middle of the continuum. Judge, I think it is totally unrealistic to think that we could lose Coaches Venerables and Elliot without any loss of continuity and quality - even if we had looked at outside people. And Courtney, I think it is a perfectly reasonable question to ask if we would not have been better to interview outside people as possibly better replacements for our co-ordinator positions.
As long as the ensuing discussion is based on empirical evidence and rational thinking, I think it is completely possible to question the program and to fully support the program simultaneously. And I think that makes reading the posts more enjoyable.

I think it's a matter of people being a bit spoiled.
CFP births and National Championships aren't guaranteed and are hard to come by. And, they should be.
I think there is a lot of: "highlight watching" going on as well OP.
Everyone is explosive in the highlights. They don't show the 2 yard loss or the bubble pass that only gained 3 yards in those. And, when people don't see that: "I think impatience sets in". Along with what I said at the begining.
As you said, fairly new coordinators. Wes had never called plays. And Streeter hadn't called plays in a long time. We should be thankful to be honest.
I think we will get better as a program because the coordinators "know they have room to grow". And, I think they will.

In 2016, Auburn gave us more trouble than they should of, Troy came within 6 of us at home, unranked NCST took us to OT (and we lucked up) and Unranked Pitt beat us at home. But that turned out okay. Sometimes Tiger fans are like the Israelites.

And so far this has been a good season. Not great but good. I definitely would have loved to see a season like this back in the 90s when we were going 6-5.
But it's the #3 item that I'd like to take issue with. We shouldn't be patient with new coordinators that never should have been promoted in the first place. Especially Streeter, who I wasn't satisfied with as the QB coach the past seven years. So promoting him did not make any sense. Dabo has worked hard to get the Clemson brand national respect. A lot of great position coaches across the country would love to come coach with Dabo here at Clemson....but instead we promote from within? I guess I can kinda see that for the defense since Venables did such a great job that Dabo wanted to hire someone who worked with Brent to continue that position. But the offense has grown stale over the years and needed fresh blood to come in. Last year our offense was ranked 114 nationally and dead last in the ACC. So it was time to bring in someone new. Now the offense has improved some this year but still nowhere were we need to be. And we haven't really faced a lot of good defenses this year either. So I was completely against the hire of Streeter last year but willing to give him a chance. But so far I am not wowed. No we don't have to be in the playoffs every year but I expect to be competitive against good programs. Half the decent teams we beat this year we were lucky to win. Wake and Syracuse are bad teams yet almost beat us. NC State was out best win and I thought we did great. But the ND loss destroyed our season. ND is very overrated. Lost to Marshall, Stanford, and nearly lost to Navy. (did I mention we had two weeks to prepare for them?) But killed us. Hard pill to swallow. So while I hope we end the regular season 11-1 then 12-1 ACC Champions....and that is great any year. I also know we did this with probably the weakess schedule in the power five. Now don't get me wrong, I still think if we go 12-1 it's a great year. But with our talent and schedule, we should be in the playoffs. I think we would be if we lost to ND by three points instead of three touchdowns.. Or if we beat some teams by three touchdowns. But that's done now. I just hope we play someone interesting in a bowl game. Maybe Oregon.

@IRONCAT68… why don’t you schedule a sit down with Coach Swinney and share your thoughts on his apparent ineptitude in hiring coordinators you deem to be better for the program. Hell he may offer you a position for this upcoming game seeing you know what goes on behind closed doors involving his picks for the coordinator positions. Just a thought.

Courtney,
I certainly do not disagree with your sentiments (TU)
However, I would hate to see this board turn into a place of blind support for the program where any questioning of our athletic department was met with unthinking attack and disrespect. There is also a small, insecure group on this board that sees any question as an assault on our players/staff, etc. - and rather than addressing the question at hand, pounce on the poster with ad homenim attacks - looking at you TDers and coot-callers.
It is completely possible to appreciate and support the program that we have - the players, the coaches, the staff, everyone - and still ask rational questions about how things are being done and why there might be some perceived decline in certain aspects of the program. In fact, I think that any program that is not constantly looking for and asking those types of questions is already in serious decline.
So while I am in total agreement that a few people on here are beyond rational in thier complaints, I would hate to see Tigers become sheep who blindly worship any football diety.
