It’s pretty telling that you can joke about people all you want, but bring another person’s dog into a completely benign joke and you get anger. I guarantee if there was a joke that said “the Swinney sons scared Kirk’s sons away, that’s why they transferred”, zero would’ve been said. Which would have been the correct response. No response. It’s emblematic of a really weird society.

I love my dogs as well. We call them our babies and they live like queens. But joke about them all you want. It can’t offend me. Joke about my family….to a point. But after that point, it’s game on.

There is a bias in the media produced sports shows to want certain teams and/or matchups.

They need to back up the pumping for certain teams and do more content on the teams themselves, analysis on games and reporting story lines instead of pushing for something that lines their own pockets.

The issue with CFP is there’s so many teams across multiple, self governing conferences. They don’t play easily comparable schedules so you’re left with this mess. Its not practical to expand the playoffs like the NCAA basketball tournament. The only way it gets cleaned up is a 20-40 team football super conference manged by a single entity like other professional sports. Unfortunately until that happens this is where we live

I agree, but pretty sure Herbie was talking about the outcomes of the games leading to the current matchups, not the original invitations.

Clemson’s student body—and therefore, alumni base as well—is the 3rd smallest to win a national championship in the modern era.

And the 2 that are smaller—Miami and Notre Dame—have immensely larger draws outside their alumni. So Clemson has the smallest pull of all the national brands.

Then add SMU to this year’s mix—the second smallest FBS enrollment in the country. Most of the other CFP schools have 10x the enrollment of SMU. With Clemson and SMU taking two spots, ESPN had to hope the other matchups would be more lucrative. And they are, by far.

Remember, advertising prices escalate the deeper into the playoffs we get. Those businesses buying commercials in those B1G and SEC areas are gonna be paying premium money for ads by the time we have a champion. Greenville, not as much.

And Notre Dame isn’t? It has nothing to do with “being a Christian”. They don’t like Dabo because he’s his own man and won’t do what they want him to do. It’s the same criticism he gets on this board. He was pretty stubborn for a few years (hiring non qualified coordinators who were his friends, fighting NIL, and refusing to use the portal even though the roster needed it) and Clemson’s performance dropped. Dabo has since changed his hardline stances on these and the team has improved significantly and will continue to improve. You’ll see ESPN begin to be more favorable towards Clemson now because the team is back to a level where it should be. I don’t understand why we think it’s ok to criticize him, but when anyone else does, we get our feelings hurt.

If you noticed the playoffs were designed to get as many SEC and/of Big 10 in the final 4. If you noticed had Tennessee gotten through OSU and Oregon and UGA beaten ND then the SEC would have had 3 in the final 4. That wasn’t done by accident. Of course hen Tennessee lost the Narrative shifted to OSU and Oregon being the 2 most talented teams. If that was the case wouldn’t you set it up to have them meet in the final. That was just a cover after the SEC flopped.

That results in over half the SEC teams being ranked in the preseason polls when only about 3 or 4 of them deserve the ranking. This gives the SEC an unfair advantage in the strength of schedule rankings each year at the end of the season when they play each other and lose to other SEC teams. Herbie has been totally corrupted by ESPN and is only another biased talking head for them. He loves to cash his check each week and that is all it is about for him anymore. He’s talking about the if ESPN only wanted the highest ratings, they wouldn’t want Clemson in the playoffs. Nothing to get defensive about because it’s true on a national stage. Clemson vs a high rating team brings great ratings, but a Clemson vs a small market team doesn’t have the national pull as Ohio State, Texas, Notre Dame would. It’s not a knock on Clemson, we are in a small state with two popular teams. Ohio only has Ohio State, Notre Dame has support from Catholics all over the world, and Texas is the flagship school in a huge state with a big brand (they had their own tv network). We don’t need to get our feelings hurt every time someone doesn’t say that Clemson is biggest and most popular team in the country. We don’t want that, Dabo doesn’t want that.

To me, he didn't appear to be ripping Clemson. He appeared to be defending his stance on who he favors to win the championship year by year. He also appears to be defending against accusations of SEC bias. By comparison he's correct whenever it comes to media ratings and big money. The BIG 10 sweeps the floor with every other conference whenever it comes to media ratings and revenues generated. There's nothing wrong with being accurate and correct about that. To sum it up, it appears to me that Kirk was merely saying that whenever it comes to revenues from media ratings, nobody wants the small schools with a small fan base. Clemson is a national brand for sure, but he wasn't attacking the brand itself. He was just setting the record straight regarding his personal view of who he believes should be in the playoff etc., and he based it upon the season's body of work, strength of schedule, and roster talent, not media ratings.

Just my opinion on his comments for what it's worth.

All Herbstreit is saying is that Clemson has a much smaller fan base and viewing audience than Ohio State and ND, which is demonstrably true. I would think Herbstreit's loyalties are first to Ohio State, where he went, and second to Clemson, where his sons went.

Herbie needs to look at the TV ratings. Georgia and Texas have much higher ratings than O State, Michigan, Penn State, or Notre Dame. Penn States ratings are no better than ours and they are piggybacking on O State and Oregon. Notre Dame ratings are worse than ours.

Just don't understand how he could ripping on Clemson FB TV rating bc when we play really good teams, our TV rating are off the charts. Maybe his two sons should rip ole dad about the ratings for OCRYO bc I'm sure ours have reached rating highs as good as what OCRYO has when they play really good teams...

Do any of us really care what any of these guys spout out on the airways? Look at Finebaum....I don't think anyone would ask him which direction the mens room is--creepy. Have you looked and noticed how little of these gurus actually correctly predict with teams and players. Sure there are standouts but good coaches and dedicated players make a huge difference.

TV will take care of itself. There are a lot more teams outside the sec than in it so be assured if the ESPN trademark shows up om team logos, there will attorneys swarming. The only thing talks bigger than money is the threat of taking a bunch of money.
