I'm sure this has been discussed before but with the article this morning, what is everyone's opinion on KB? In looking at the hudl video below(hopefully posted correctly), it looks like he can make all the throws. I realize this is a highlight video that can be manipulated but if he can put the ball near our receivers, I feel like they will win majority of the time. If he can be somewhat consistent with his throws I believe that coupled with his athleticism and knowledge of offense give us best chance to win. From reading the boards it seems like I'm in the minority but ill hang up and listen.

I've watched these highlights and he does seem to have the ability to make the throws. I think the biggest issue may be what Clemson asks from its quarterbacks.
If it's a run pass option he has to read that correctly and then be able to make the right throw in tight windows at times. I think that's where his biggest struggles at times are. Kind of a one read and run guy

Yeah I certainly understand that but my issue too is the fact that he hasn't been given much game experience and some people already want to pass him over for Cooper and Johnson. Just wondering if I was missing something

I mean we really won't be able to tell anything until he gets in a game but I just feel there's a reason the coaches haven't really let him throw for the two years he's been on the team

put into games, he's in there to not make mistakes. Mop up if you will. running the ball is safer than him trying to throw over the middle. So basically we've not seen his full skill set. This QB situation is intriguing indeed.

He looked like a One Read-- Panic--Run QB system when he was in the spring game.
If he is QB you will see 8-9 men in the box all day with a spy on him. Like the JTBarret defense...

moves and throws are 2 different things. Especially at the college level.
Mechanics seem to be a hindrance. But, if a line can open high school size gaps for him - look out!

Exactly. He has a windup throwing motion that isn't very conventional. Starts low but it ends real high above his head

To be honest I don't know much about mechanics but wasn't that Tebow knock also? We should have good oline to give him some time. It looks like he has nice touch on the deep ball. Again I'm referencing a highlight video and wish he wouldn't have gotten hurt in spring game.

Bryant will be the starter for the next two years because

of his running skills. He is at the very top along with Vince Young in my book at running the ball from the QB position. I know our D was split in the spring game the last two years, but he was still going against some of the best defensive competitors in the country. I believe he would have had over 200 yards rushing in both games if playing the whole game. I understand that is not what the spring game is about, but the potential was there. He is going to put so much pressure on the opposing D's that a high school QB could hit the Tiger wideouts. When you add Higgins and Powell to the receiving core, he will be throwing to the most talented group in Clemson history. His passing will improve over the next two seasons. I expect him to have a really good season this year, and a potential Heisman run in 18. This is all predicated on his running ability and the superior talent at WR.

We definitely should have some new wrinkles to the offense with his ability. He just needs to show he can take the top off a defense if they start creeping up and we'll be fine.

Have to disagree with you on two years. I honestly think Trevor will be our starting QB in 2018 unless HJ is so far ahead of him that you have to play him. Sorry, not a big Kelly fan - haven't been since we recruiting him. Thank goodness nothing happened to DW4 last year but had something happened, Nick could have won for us. Can't say the same for Kelly or he wouldn't have been 3rd string last year.
Kelly and the former gamehen Lorenzo Nuneez were compared in recruiting. We offered both. That being said, even though KB didn't get game experience etc. and we have a 56-7 better team, Nuneez couldn't run the coots offense. He was a great runner and made some good running plays against weak competition but we he got into a throwing down, he either sailed it high (like KB) or tucked it and ran. Nuneez was rated higher at QB when he was recruited. His "measurables" were better than KB.
I seriously think we'll see Hunter Johnson at some point this season. I just hope it's not after our chance at another natty is done.

He's not Vince Young . By seasons end Johnson or Cooper will be starting next season. I'm betting on Johnson. Trevor Lawrence has better numbers than Watson in high school. Bryant won't start for two years.

Dantzler was a splendid runner, along with being a pretty good, but not great, passer. That carried the day against the marginal, but when it came to real defenses like Fla. State at that time, he was stuffed. QB's HAVE to be able to consistently make throws to keep this team elite, offensively. Even Alabama was hurt against us for these same reasons, and for the fact our QB was better.

Opinions at this point don't matter

b/c many can make all the throws in practice or even a lower level of play. Let's wait until live bullets fly, and see if there's consistency there, under real game conditions. A lot of the matter is consistency, series in and series out, under pressure. Cole Stoudt could "make all the throws" BEFORE he started, or he wouldn't have been installed as the starter. Then reality hit. I had a wonderful practice player once who made all his throws, but when we got in the real game he couldn't deliver.
This is a wait-and-see situation all the way for those who want "answers now". Even the coaches know this.

Not only do we not yet know what any of these QBs can do, we also have another potential issue that we don't know about. We talk the WRU talk, but we don't really know what this years TEs and WRs can do against really good talent and with imperfect throws. Set Renfrow aside for a moment - Both Leggett and Williams were incredibly good most of the time on passing plays and were huge targets with height, reach and good hands, which bailed Watson out more often than I could count. It takes a team, which we won't see until the first few games. Let's just trust that we'll get good coaching and end up with a very competitive (if not perfect) product. I do think that whoever is selected as the starting QB will need to be very accurate with his ball placement.
