I read what these "pundits" have to say about Clemson's defense. Never do they mention the number of points given up in the 4th quarter when backups are in. They seem to forget that Dabo does as good a job as anybody when comes to giving backup players precious, meaningful playing time. Obviously, this goes a long way towards long-term player development. I will agree that our defense was worn out in the second half of the season opener against Georgia but I will gladly put them up against anyone at this point in the season. Thankfully, our Tigers get to do their talking on the field!
Go Tigers! #beatlouisville

I agree totally. That said the back ups watching guys run by them is for long plays is pretty poor and you know Louisville wii try to exploit us not being ready on defense a few times Saturday

I think most people understand that we've given up garbage time points. We've also had absolutely brutal backup defense play this year. Worst than most other years I can remember. Giving up points is one thing, but giving up freebie TDs on busted plays and allowing teams to go 75 yards in 1 minute kills us.
Just as an FYI, our defense is still only ranked 20th in the nation in points allowed in the first half of games, so it isn't like we're world beaters with our first team guys anyway. And we only allow 4 more points per half in the 2nd half vs the 1st half (9 vs 13).
Points allowed by quarter (rank)
1st qtr = 1.4 (3rd) 2nd qtr = 7.6 (64th) 3rd qtr - 4.0 (21st) 4th qtr = 9.9 (119th)
As a reference for 4th quarter defense scoring from our best seasons:
2015 = 8.8 (106th) 2016 = 6.0 (37th) 2017 = 6.3 (54th) 2018 = 4.9 (19th) 2019 = 3.9 (9th) 2020 = 4.3 (18th)
So, you can see that even in years when we were blowing out opponents to higher levels than this year that our backups performed (largely) better than this year's group.

Not sure what source you are using or how accurate their numbers actually are. If you adjust Clemson's scoring defense on strictly First Team Defense they would rank top 5/6 in the country at 14 points a game. This includes the 34 given up in game 1. Take away that game and go from 2-7 and they are top 3 in the country. I know the back ups have been somewhat of a letdown, and I also know that Dabo had a (Coming to Terms) scrimmage with the backups during the bye week too! These coaches know how to evaluate and they know how to motivate. These young guys will figure it out and will be household names in due time. Clemson plays their A game this game won't be close this week either. I'm calling it 59-21!

"The Tigers have topped the Cardinals by an average of 22.5 points in Memorial Stadium matchups."
It feels like we've had a few close calls with them at home. I remember the 2014 game being a really close defensive struggled with Stoudt in for the injured Watson, and we of course won by 6 in 2016. We didn't play them at all in 2020 due to the abnormal COVID schedule.
I think the 77-16 game in 2018 is skewing that average margin of victory by A LOT.

What a great day that was! It was my daughter’s first Clemson game. She was about 6 months old, dressed in a full Tiger outfit, and has been a good luck charm for the games I’ve been able to take her to in Death Valley ever since.

DEER NATIONAL PUNDITS:
There are only two chances that Loservull upsets Clemson in Death Valley. Those chances are as follows:
1. SLIM
2. NONE
I mean, never say never. However, it ain't happening Jack...

Well some of these so called National pundits are joke meaning they don’t pay attention that most of the points Clemson has given up is with our backups in. That said we are playing at home and with this home advantage especially if our crowd gets into it I predict Clemson to win but it might be a close game. Go Tigers!

The point that the backups have been the ones giving up the points and the stats has been made over and over. According to this perspective, the backups are not good enough to rotate in to spell the 1st team.
How will the starters fare when they have to play the entire four quarters ? Will they get worn down ?

A 24-20 Tiger win wouldn’t surprise me but would like to see a bigger margin. Everybody starts to pay more attention the rest of the way now to see if you can bring it and solidify yourself. Go Tigers.
