Justin fields taking only on line courses at OSU

Sep 25, 2019, 4:13 PM

I admit, I'm an old fart. "on line" courses hadn't been invented in my days at CU. I'm in no way qualified to say if they are legit or not. would suspect it varies widely from school to school, even course to course at the same school. but this quote from fields is somewhat disturbing.

“I can spend more time on football and studying, stuff like that…But from what I have seen, the campus is beautiful and the people around are great,” Fields said.

something just seems wrong if you're not familiar with the campus.

Is the Johnny Manziel approach, which is obviously proven...

Online courses are easily cheated

Sep 25, 2019, 4:17 PM

They are convenient but most lack any sort of cheating prevention.

Absolutely false from my ASU perspective. On top of that, I’m a TA for a 300 level prob and stats course. Students take their exams under the watchful eyes and ears of their computer camera and microphone. TAs have to review the proctored exams after they go through a proctoring service (ASU uses RPNow) which has already checked them twice.

probably could have. I am an old fart, too...pretty skeptical of online courses, and how they maintain educational integrity. I call it the "Tarheel Effect"

I'm old school also and there is no way one can convince me that on-line is the equivalent to in the class room education. Before I retired, the agency I worked for started the "work from home" crapola.
One "gentleman" I knew remodeled his entire house during his "work at home" time. I guess one has to determine who is honest and who is not. I see no scale for that so it is open season I guess. Yeah, I know, you can't judge all by the action of some but why would you open this door at all ? Maybe that is why some of our younger folks have no communication skills. Off my soap box now. I'll go back to eating oatmeal and cheese toast.

I'd bet money that Justin Fields

At UNCheat, one sure fire way to tell if their players were actually taking the computer course themselves; look for White Out on the screens.

Yes.

"Justin Fields" is taking online classes. He also answers to Hue Chi online as well.

well after this incident in the classroom, I can see why he is taking online classes

It's also another opportunity for universities to cash in. A lot cheaper to provide an online course, but students still pay the same amount.

Actually, I pay more than an out of state student to access lectures recorded 5+ years ago in a lot instances. On top of $633 per credit I pay a $100 “technology fee” every course, or semester. Forget which.

Online students get raked over the coals when it comes to what we get for what we pay.

Online courses are totally acceptable now and count

Sep 25, 2019, 5:27 PM

exactly the same as actual classroom classes. Both of my kids took a ton of online classes - totally legit and sometimes recommended by faculty. I'm like you - it just doesn't seem the same, doesn't seem legit somehow, but that's they way it is.

How far are the bucknut football practice facility and bucknut stadium from the OSU campus?

Pretty sure the Duke & UNC one & done's never even do any school work, because they can still play. If you never go to class & just play sports, are you really part of the University?

That was my thoughts. My nephew just graduated from North Carolina State he told me last week he would go for his masters at Clemson ... ON LINE!! I told him that's not exactly getting the school experience but he started his new job in Charlotte. Sigh ??

I’ve thought about pursuing online masters through CU. I agree totally that it won’t be the same, or REMOTELY CLOSE to on campus experience... I went to CU my freshman year and I feel like I have unfinished business. I want that CU degree on my wall and I’d sure as eff get that CU class ring and wear it with pride.

As a representative of the university, I think that’s a bad idea. You need to have your face on campus.

However, I’m an online engineering student through ASU right now (graduating in December!!!) and I can tell you that online classes, for the most part, are no joke and most universities that give a thought towards their reputation take academic integrity very seriously with online courses.
