I read a statement the other day that Scar and UF would

Nov 30, 2012, 10:32 AM

try to save the rivalry games if expansion broke out again. My question is would they lobby for Clemson and FSU to the SEC to save the rivalry game or bid us farewell? Would the SEC even consider us?

It would be pretty cool if those rivarly games could determine a division championship. Add a little something extra.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It is a law for us to play Scar

Nov 30, 2012, 10:34 AM

I'm not sure Florida has that same law in place. They have long been the reason that the SEC hasn't considered either team. They don't want the in-state competition with the SEC label.

I thought this law was turned down back in the spring..***

Key word is "proposed". It was shot down.

there are lots of stupid laws passed by legislatures every day. I'm not sure if we'd have to pass one in this case.

I do have every confidence that if a stupid law is needed in this situation the SC legislature would be more than up to the task. It's what they do

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think we all deep down know the answer to that.

Nov 30, 2012, 10:37 AM

I think your handle aptly describes how each feels about their rival and therefore, there's your answer.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Guess your right. I just didnt know how important the

rivalry game was to them. If they stood a chance at losing it just maybe they would lobby for us to SEC to save it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All I know is that the Clemson/Carolina game is state law.

Nov 30, 2012, 10:42 AM

Legislature got it passed after a major conference realignment killed some other rivalries. So unless they want to pass a new state law any other conference will have that baggage attached to our team.

The SEC also has division realignments in a rotation every three years which means that if by some chance we ever did decide to become conference homererotics and move to the SEC, the Tigers/Coot game would have to go away for a few years.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: All I know is that the Clemson/Carolina game is state law.

Nov 30, 2012, 10:58 AM

The SEC does have in-state rivalries with Auburn-Alabama and Ole Miss- Miss State, so that isn't an issue. Although I'm not sure about the game in Miss, the Alabama-Auburn game plays every years regardless of rotation. A UF-FSU and/or CU-USuC would be the same.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The games you mentioned would be a reason that conference

would want a new team as unencumbered as it can be.

Unfortunately, it's not.

Nov 30, 2012, 10:58 AM

say anything it comes true....we have a rivalry with auburn then. UF is rivals with miami, fsu, and georgia. Scar is just hoping someone will consider them worthy of that upper echelon crowd. They've been good for like 3 years..and thats because of some solid recruits. Will they sustain that for even 10 years....i doubt it.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: they have a rivalry between them? wow i guess if you just

Nov 30, 2012, 11:04 AM

The OP was saying that UF and SC would try to save their respective rivalry games against FSU and Clemson, not that UF vs. SC is a rivalry game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It looks like we'll sustain that for several years to come,

Nov 30, 2012, 3:24 PM [ in reply to they have a rivalry between them? wow i guess if you just ]

at least. Our recruiting is currently ranked 12th. And I like our chances with several uncommitted blue-chippers.

No they're not. Stop with this made up crap. The SEC doesn't need tradition, it wants and needs TV Markets. Clemson adds nothing. NOTHING.

The SEC doesn't care about what teams did in the 80's. The coots have proven that SEC money can turn anyone into a competitive program.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

WRONG!!! Virginia Tech and NC State are who the SEC want,

There really isn't much "blocking" going on, the SEC just doesn't want Clemson or even FSU.

Re: I read a statement the other day that Scar and UF would

There is no reason to have two teams from SC in one conference. You don't ever even hear of FSU being invited and they are in a huge state

I think you would be surprised to hear that both Spurrier and Pastides (USC Pres) have publicly supported Clemson to the SEC in the past.

This article does an excellent job of summing it up.

We are already in separate conferences, right? So why would us leaving for a non-ACC conference (SEC or B12) affect who we play the week of Thanksgiving? They aren't talking about getting rid of out of conference games...so I'm not sure what the point of this post is.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I read a statement the other day that Scar and UF would

Nov 30, 2012, 2:29 PM

All I've read is, barring any consideration of footprints and TV sets, that UF and SCAR are the main reason why Clemson and FSU aren't being considered for the SEC. They are lobbying hard to keep us out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I read a statement the other day that Scar and UF would

Nov 30, 2012, 2:35 PM

problem is, according to Dabo, the Clemson-SC game is not a rivalry. So there is nothing to save anyway.
