He was a great HS running back ....against HS players. This is a whole different deal. Guys who have been in the rb room all year arent getting many carries. Why would he suddenly make a splash at rb over the guys who play the position

These are his sr rushing stats. We have scholarship RB on the team that had similar or less stats in HS
Carries YDS YDS/rush yards/gm long 100+ gm TD

Those are ligit HS stats. Especially playing both ways Full time

Between running back and quarterback and even pitch or swing passes…timing is critical and it takes repetition and ball security and tacklers ripping at the ball.
Can’t just run Sammy out there without reps like he is William Perry lol.
I agree with the ‘let him play linebacker for FOUR quarters’ crowd.

It’s not even about learning assignments.
People think because Hunter did it as a WR/DB that anyone is capable at any position.
The physicality of playing LB and RB are so much different than the positions Hunter played both ways all year.
They’re two of the most demanding positions on the football field. There’s absolutely 0 chance he would be able to do all that and stay healthy.

If Quinn Ewers isn’t a running QB, which I don’t think he is (correct me if I’m wrong), then I could see this being a possibility. I’m not technically sound when it comes to cfb defenses, but what if the Tigers bring another fast DB to go sideline to sideline up in Sammy’s spot if he were to only focus on RB. I mean, dang, he may just play both? Crazier things have happened!

Apples and oranges. Hunter plays WR and CB. Both positions don't require getting hit or hitting on every play. Even then he was injured for three games last year. Sammy plays LB. A lot more exposure for hits. Then RB which is the worst position for getting hit. Even a glancing blow at RB could drastically limit him playing LB. We need him on defense. All game. Not wore down in the 4th quarter.
I think he could do well at RB. I just don't think it makes sense to do it in the biggest game of the year, when the other RB's have gotten practice reps all season. They are the ones that need to step up.

In 2012 Clemson moved Sammy to RB against LSU. He lasted 1 play.

It would be doing him a disservice to not have him carry the ball a single time all year and then expect him to be productive for the first time at the collegiate level in a road playoff game.

it may often telegraph what we're doing on offense. That is, unless Sammy is brought in a lot for pass blocking (so that they couldn't just assume his presence indicated a run play), which would entail a lot of reps, meaning he might be too gassed to play his best D.

I was thinking the same thing this week…. I think it has to be considered, at least 5-10 plays…. Also, how about Randall at RB for a few rushes?? This game will take some OUT OF THE BOX thinking to win!!! The standard conservative 2nd half play calls will get us smoked this week!!!
