Headed this morning for shoulder rotator surgery number 7

Had 3 on left. This will be number 4 on right.

At 60, I’m beginning to seriously doubt if I will ever pitch in the majors.

Probably can still pass better than LaNorris Sellers though.

Wish you well and a speedy recovery. Have always heard that was one of the roughest surgeries as far as rehab! Guessing you are a “pro” at that though with that many surgeries! Let us know how it goes!

Ha. Actually on number 3 surgeon. John Paylor at Piedmont Ortho did the first 3. Good surgeon. Got about 10 years out of those. Matt Robertson with Blue Ridge did 4 and 5. He passed last year. Super good guy. Erik Johnson at Carolina Ortho did number 6 last year. Had good results. He’s doing number 7 today.

I clearly have torn/damaged my rotator cuff in my right shoulder years ago from repeatedly throwing a tennis ball as hard as I could to our dog at the lake. Is the surgery worth it? The only time it bothers me is when I throw the football. If you have gone that's many times I would think no. How do you keep damaging them? Power lifting!?

I played sports into college. Then started lifting heavy weights and became a weekend warrior. Gave up the heavy weights over 20 years ago. But once you get one, and you’re still active, you’ll get about 10 years. Always put off surgery until you have to have it. I would recommend looking into stem cell first. Insurance won’t cover it and it’s about $3k a shoulder, but results look promising. Thomas Davis swears by it.

Best of luck with the surgery. I have had problems for years in mine and my doctor said it was from calcium build-up in the joints. I have been holding off having anything done by taking chondroiden (Move Free) which seem to help ..... probably not effective for some folks .... or maybe it is just a placebo ..... but it helps me.

Best wishes. Had one major repair several years back. Followed the PT and Dr. advice. Great recovery, range of motion, etc. still performing the PT exercises 3 days per week. Not easy but very positive results.

Have the Drs explained why you keep tearing? I would like to know so I don’t do it!

Praying for you! I've had both shoulders done for labrum SLAP tears with involved rotator cuff tears. The rehab is arduous! Regenerative medicine (stem cell therapy) looks promising and I wish the insurers and Medicare would get it in gear to cover this. It should be a money saver, but there's so much invested in the surgical ecosystem. Best of luck to you! 7...oh my goodness 😳

Man. Praying for you. I’ve had one major shoulder surgery on my right and it was incredibly painful and slow recovery. I had a bankhart procedure as my rotator cuff and all the soft tissue was shredded from pitching into my late 20’s. I played a couple more years but my arm was never the same. I spent a year with my right arm pinned to my chest. I need surgery on both with the left needing a cadaver tendon to replace the long head of the bicep tendon. I’ve been putting them off for five years. I guess I need to get it done

I had the left shoulder done in 2013. It included the labrum, two (2) rotator cuffs, and a torn biceps tendon. I think I must be getting healthier with age because my surgery in May 2024 only required reattaching the biceps tendon and one (1) completely torn rotator cuffs (they call it 100% full thickness). Having the right shoulder done was horrible at age 65 (now 66) because I am right-handed. Shoulder surgery generally requires completely immobilizing the shoulder, anrm and hand tight against your waist for 6 to 7 weeks. Yuk! I had to figure out how to do a lot of things left-handed.

… and that was probably more than anybody wanting to know.
