Got my last tomatoes for the season.

Dec 15, 2021, 2:06 PM

These 2 small tomatoes were green as can be. They never ripened on the vine and frost was about to hit so I put them in a brown paper bag with some fruit and two weeks later they are as red as can be. Going on my next sandwich!

This past Summer was about the best mator year I have had. 5 plants in pots fed the neighborhood. I am cutting back to 3 next year.

No, that is my 74 year old wife.
My place is mostly shade and so I grow some mators and peppers on my dock.

This is proof you can grow in a pot. I have a solar panel that watered them with good river water.

Those are awesome!
I wasn't that successful. Next year I want to use more fertilizer and plant earlier. Maybe the pots are the way to go. One of mine was in a lower lying section and received to my water ( rained a lot early summer).

didn't think I would like it (I normally don't like heated fresh tomatoes) but it was good

I make a green tomato sweet relish. It makes the best tuna sandwiches. I scoop out the seeds and only use the wall of the fruit. Most of any solanine is in the seeds. I dice it, and sub it for cucumber in any relish recipe that sounds good.

Enjoy the sandwich!
