Wow, just watch this thing and Novell is a broken man, check out his body language and where he looks etc, Even when we were struggling, Dabo owned the room…. Dabo is an incredible coach, and human, carried himself with grace even when results not showing…. How can anyone follow this guy if he like this…. Just zero confidence in how he speaks .

these buyouts should not be tolerated in college or pro sports, guarenteed contracts are the most idiotic thing to ever hit sports outside of the college NIL.
Let me spell out how it should work for both pro players/ coaches and college coaches.
you sign a 5 year 25 million dollar contract, if you get fired before completing the contract you get one years worth salary as the "buyout" / if you leave for another school before contract you owe them one years of salary.

When I was working my former conpany's severance policy was one week per year of service, plus 4 weeks in lieu of notice, plus unused vacation. This was an S&P 500 company and I'm sure most were similar. Of course, we didn't have contracts like football coaches, but I agree, one year severance is very fair.

Contracts are negotiated. Schools would love that.

But, what coach is going to agree to that? Do you think FSU can hire a quality coach with those buyout stipulations?

Ha! Clearly the answer is no. FSU cannot, did not, hire a quality coach with the more lucrative approach!

Does that mean this is the fix for college ball? A contract coaches (current) wouldn't sign? Do we need a college football depression si.ply to adjust expectations and attitudes? Maybe. I think not could work but even if the dog hunts, no one is going to let it. There are market principals in play but anything that supports what these guys are getting suggests the product (our entertainment) is being irresponsibly produced. Without irresponsible consumption, these contracts could not be sustained.

And to think they had a bye week to prepare for that. 😂
Looks like they get another bye week to prepare for Charleston Southern before playing Florida

I cannot believe a guy can be paid millions to coach college football, and still not understand they did not have a “bye week”!
It is not a bye. It’s an open date.
If you make the playoff (which they won’t) and get to skip the first round…THAT is a bye. You don’t get a “bye” during the regular season.
Can’t believe I still have to explain this.

That's the body language and voice of a person who's lost his team and way. By way I'm afraid I mean faith, hollow & empty.

Norvell doesn’t seem like a bad guy but I don’t mind seeing FSU struggle. This would be far more enjoyable if it were Jimbo Fisher.

There are a couple of theories one could speak on that helped to propel them to where they are currently. For the sake of keeping the peace on game day I will refrain from sharing those but the sequence of events imo started at the end of last year. Honestly hate it. The ACC badly needs an FSU to be good along with other teams. The ACC has never been great but this year may be the worse I have ever seen. The reason I have been kind of blah on where we currently are. We have played Ga. and then it has been no one relevant since. I will say we have dominated the games that we should have dominated and when playing inferior teams that’s all you can hope for, that and no injuries.

Agree we haven’t played anyone good since UGA, but the last couple years we didn’t look great even against bad teams. This year is different. Not saying we are great, but we have definitely improved.

He always seemed upbeat, even after losses. During the first few years he exuded confidence. "I see the improvement. I know we are getting better. The results aren't there yet, but they are closer. I trust these coaches. I trust these players." Even this year, he kept being confident in post game pressers.
Heck, even a couple of weeks ago he was talking about how much he believed in the players and coaches.
Not last night. He looked more like a deer in the headlights. I think he realizes that he has to clean house with the coaches and start over. That is never an easy thing to do. He's built relationships with the coaches and their families. Firing people is necessary sometimes, but it is never easy.
Then, after he fires them what does he do next? It's not like he can go out and hire Matt Luke and Garrett Riley (using them as an example, not saying he should try to hire those two men specifically). What good OC or OL coach would want to come to FSU?
I suppose he's thinking, "So, I fire my coaches. What do I do then?"

I don't think he needs to clean house completely. Defense has been decent. I use decent because they've lacked discipline which surprises me.
Maybe just an oline coach and wr coach. I think he made a huge mistake selling out and going all in with dju. I've posted it before. Ga tech game was a shock but was recoverable with a W against bc. With the bc loss, the players and probably the coaches too realized it was a huge longshot to play in the acc championship game... hence playoffs goal was out of reach too. Va tech, Clemson, Miami, Louis. 3 would have to have been a 3 loss team.
So, I think he should have scrapped dju at that point and really started building for next year. Otherwords, bench most of the one year transfers and played more of the recruits. Jmho. Obviously I'm simplifying it quite a bit, but send a clear signal that we're transition from transfer u to high school u. At least from what I've heard in the podcasts and pre season presser is his coach philosophy has always been to align with Dabo's philosophy. Or at least more likely Bama, uga etc vs the perceived transfer route like prime time. Please tell me if I'm off base.

so he'll likely be around a few more years until that number decreases to something a little more affordable for FSU.

I think Jimbo’s contract goes till 2031.
Im curious to know the buyout amounts year by year between now and then, but even though Google is my very good friend, she / him / they could not find that information for me.
FSU is in a bind.
