That is a big pair of driving props on that boat! Kind of like a stump pulling rear end ratio on a land vehicle, I suspect!

Do you have a connection to Edisto?

Just curious because we chartered a sunset cruise from a very nice gentleman at the marina who was (or is) a tugboat captain.
I know he said he got called out to various ports as he was needed. I don't remember if he was retired or still working. Either way, thank for the pics.

I worked for Steven's Towing , a local ( Charleston ) tugboat company with an office and dock near Edisto . They're located on Yonges Island , near Megget . I might now the guy if he worked for Bill Stevens while I was there ( 1997-2005 ) .

In our youth we would hangout with two guys who crewed on river barges, the Kanawha & Ohio. I recollect they worked for months and then off for months. They called it a love/hate relationship. Same for you and your crew?

Well it means she will pull and tug very large and heavy barges , but we're way underpowered to move the ships around to and from the docks . Those tugs typically have 4 or 5k HP .

So do you actually tug with that boat, or is it a barge pusher? And if it's a pusher, why do we call it a tug boat?

We can actually do both , but this is a push boat . She's designed to push barges around by making up to the stern of them using 2 40-ton pull winches and spectra gear .
