At your job, one bad year out of 15 gets you where?

Fired? Ripped? Trashed on a message board?

Yes, Dabo makes more than all of us combined most likely. Yes, that opens him up to fair criticism when things aren't going well.

But when we expect perfection constantly, we'll never be content. We'll never be happy. When we demand other people to be perfect, we'll be disappointed. Why? Nobody's perfect.

This is unquestionably Dabo's worst season as HC. The talk of a three-year decline is absurd. Last year alone was an improvement on the year before. Imagine 98% of other fanbases MAD because their team failed to win more than 10 games in a season. Are we that spoiled?

What some of you are suggesting is that we can't trust the HC that's won multiple national titles, NUMEROUS conference titles, and given the program stability AND success it lacked for...a long time.

Dabo's rant last night, from a national perspective, will get poked and prodded and lambasted by media elites and fanbases that are oddly obsessed with Clemson (looking at you, Buckeyes). But if I'm successful at my job, and a kid calls me out on a public forum telling me I'm not worth the paycheck I'm bringing home, I can't say I'm not going to react in a similar way.

Was it over the top? Probably. The poster last night who asked how a PR professional would handle this gave a canned response that, sure, would've been better in terms of public perception.

But if we can take a minute and recognize that yes, it's a bad year and some things aren't working, we can also see that every single college football team out there (except Bama and maybe UGa) has had some miserable seasons in the past decade+.

My hope would be that this rant would fire up the team and get them in a hungry place for Saturday. Who knows? But let's maybe just give a bit of grace to the coach who's having his first truly awful season as an HC. Perfection is a myth.

Go Tigers.

not 1.5% of the fanbase........MANY fans.

I didn't have an issue with what either party said on that call last night. Both had good points, both missed in some spots on their delivery.

College football is a business, much more now than it ever has been, but it's always been one. You mention "one bad year".........that's "allowed" in business. What typically concerns shareholders of companies are trends.

If a company shows revenue/profit growth for 8-10 years and then has steady decline over the next 5 years there will be concerns and questions as to WHY?.....The CEO/president/leader will have to answer to that and be demanded to change.

Good thing 2022 athletic revenue hit an all time high of $158 million dollars. Athletic deparment revenue net of football expenditures grew a whopping $29 million for a total of $104 million dollars in net revenue in 2022. Clemson athletic department revenue has grown 260% under Dabo's tenure. This is not on pace with college football. It is the highest by percentage in D1 over that period. It is, by percentage, roughly 100% more than the ACC league average over that period (an average boosted specifically by Clemson's performance) and eclipsing even the most dominant team of the era, Alabama, by more than 100% growth (165% versus 275%).

So, by your own logic, you should ease the #### up for the next five years.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Of course revenue went up. The cost to get a seat in DV went up.***

Oct 31, 2023, 10:36 AM

Ticket revenue is up $10 million or 145% over the time period. That doesn't cover the 260% overall growth, by a longshot. You're gonna really need to get your big booster friends to stop giving if you want to get through to the athletic department. Because the 2019-2022 decline Tnet morons like to talk about hasn't made a dent where it matters.

It's laughable in a job where only FOUR teams out of well over 100 have a chance to play for a national title that winning 10 games is considered mediocre.

That's a falsehood. You're simply wrong. The past two years were "down" years based on the fact that we've continually played in the CFB playoffs. But calling them mediocre is pure insanity.

Huh? Not at all. I said that it's neurotic insanity to assume coaches should be winning national titles every single season. And for some reason there are fans on this board that whine when that's not happening.

Nobody is happy with how this season is going. Nobody thinks we don't need some changes in the staff and playcalling. But quit ripping a coach that put Clemson on the national map.

We had a great season last year. An 11 win season is a great year for any team. We would’ve missed the playoffs by 2 points. This is a down year. Let’s see how it plays out. If we go 5-7 / 6-6, I will say it’s a terrible year. If we go 7-5/ 8-4 mediocre. If we go 9-4 decent year

Do those other teams earn their athletic departments $158 million in gross revenue and over $100 million in revenue net of football expenditures. All while servicing debt below 7% of annual revenue? Just in case you don't realize it's rhetorical, the answer is no.

Dabo has been an ambassador for the school and community in a way few other coaches have ever been anywhere. Billions in economic development. Clemson's revenue growth during Dabo's tenure has outpaced Alabams's under Nick Saban and it's not even close. Alabama's revenue, while the single greatest dynasty in college football history, has grown by $84 million annually from 2009 - present. Clemson's has grown over $100 million in that time. If that doesn't sound impressive enough for you that is over 100% more growth as a percentage (260% to 160%).

So get out of here with the nonsense complaints about his salary.

Was Hootie giving press conferences telling the fans that we were a

championship team, thus setting our expectations as such?

That's the crux of the issue. Dabo has, intentionally, built the expectations up that we're an elite team, within an elite system, that should be national championship contenders every year. But, instead, we've built a program based on a bet that building up inexperienced coaches/players from within the system is the way to get there. And it's been this way now for quite a few years.

You can't say that we're a national power while maintaining a system that is, at this point, a total bust. That's how you catch heat like he is.

Re: At your job, one bad year out of 15 gets you where?

1

Oct 31, 2023, 9:16 AM

The issue at hand is Dabo wants to define it as one bad year. But if you look at the decline of the program in terms of development since Trevor's Sophomore year, then you start to see what the so called 1.5% are complaining about. There have been problems with this program that have existed before this season. There have been problems before last year's 10 win season. That is the issue at hand. The problems have only gotten worse. They haven't improved at all. Now the players can't even execute the basics as seen by the constant turnover problem. We may not be able to fix the roster or coaches during the season. But one thing for sure they can fix is stop turning the ball over.

I completely agree. I think the silver lining is that Dabo is pissed, that is not a bad thing. Could he have handled it better, sure but that doesn’t mean this was the worst thing that could be done.

CDS will either make the changes necessary or he won’t. He can’t fire coaches and go into the transfer portal right now. Sadly we have to ride out this season & just see what he does after.

Also, the entire country is obsessed with Clemson. I take it as a compliment. 2 years ago, UGA fans would’ve killed to have a fraction of the success Clemson has experienced. Don’t let these loser fan bases around the country turn their nose up to us. Go Tigers!
