It is real. It affects everyone. If you hunt or fish this is really alarming.
Sea levels are riding. From Post Courier this morning.

In 1922, the year tide level recording began in Charleston harbor, there were a grand total of two minor flood events (7 feet). In 2023, Charleston experienced 75 flood events that crossed the 7-foot line, including minor, moderate and major floods.

Exactly, they've all bought expensive mansions on the beach because they know it's nothing but a globalist scam like covid, etc. etc.

More to that, watched an impressive presentation by a billionaire who used to "buy into the globalist bs" until, as he said, he used common sense.

Banks, Insurance companies don't loan or write policies in flood areas (one example), they are on top of the future, valuations, etc...if they even slightly thought or felt the global warming bs was real, they'd not be loaning money, let alone insuring anything even close to the ocean, etc. but yet they do...case and point the entire thing is a scam. Yet another globalist plot top destroy our freedoms, take away our wealth, etc etc.

To think here we are almost 4 years after the scamDEMic and there's still people believing their TVs and this globalist propaganda...AND...not simply using their own common sense and critical thinking. Because if they did, they see thought all the BS.

Sadly the reason they've not is that the majority of the people only think, know, and believe what the TV tells them. They have zero ability to think on their own - if they actually ever did.

And unfortunately, being that we live in a consumer economy, meaning that if we do nto keep buying things, the whole thing crashes on our head, which is silly, an economic system that requires infinite consumption on a planet with finite resources. This can only end one way.

Just out of curiosity, When was the last time the harbor was dredged? My lay person's knowledge is limited, but I guess that since a large portion of the state (and maybe beyond) drains into the harbor from the Ashley and Cooper Rivers that there would be a large amount of silt buildup on the harbor floor. Wouldn't that skew the data towards the sea rising and not the harbor becoming more shallow? Maybe that's way over simplifying, but I don't know.

New Orleans is far worse due to the fact that 2/3 of the country drains through it. Technically there should be no reason for New Orleans to exist, and yet it does through a system of dikes and/or levees which proved to be basically ineffective or insufficient during Katrina.

And just for the record, cities like Charleston, New Orleans, Savannah, etc. were due to be underwater by the year 2000 if you go back to the 1980's and read some of that data. The year keeps getting pushed as we "learn" more and more about it. So.....pardon my skepticism.

Now there are two blocks of fill behind East Bay ending at Concord St., also there is an expansive park between Concord St. and the river.

Why? Why indeed Spud. Two reasons and they're both about the money. Hospitals got (still get?) funding for Covid related patients. Here's the other part, so did I!

My mother passed away 2 years ago. She was 83 and suffering from dementia. She got to the point where she wasn't eating and slowly passed away. At 83, she smoked just about every day since she was a teenager and at the time of her (and surprise to every doctor that examined her) death was on absolutely no prescription drugs of any kind. 3 months before she passed, we were looking into assisted living and just about to move her into the Presbyterian home in Easley when she fell and broke her hip. Doctors said she may not survive the surgery, but did. As she was about to be released, she tested positive for Covid and spent another 10 days in the hospital. At that time we cancelled the assisted living arrangements and set her up with Hospice. But they could not take her until she had a negative test. Which she did and spent about a week to 10 days at Hospice until she passed. On the death certificate Covid-19 was listed as a cause (one of) of death.

My sister was livid. I wasn't surprised and asked her what difference does it make at this point. She told me that if Covid is listed as the cause of death, FEMA pays for the burial. My mother was cremated and she was buried next to my father at a cost of around $900. All of which was reimbursed by FEMA.

How much as the average LOW & HIGH tide level risen since 1983?

4

Feb 7, 2024, 7:52 AM
Reply

3”? 6”? >12”?

Essentially, what I am asking is HOW HIGH has the sea level changed in Charleston harbor?

I’m seriously curious about this.

If official records are showing that the average LOW & HIGH tide levels have risen 15” in the last 10 years, with a trend line that showed the next 15 years will result in another 20” rise in sea level, THEN, I would be seriously concerned.

A sea level rise of almost 3’ in 25 years would be SERIOUSLY concerning.

Can you point to some oceanic study or hard evidence supporting some of my “conjectures” noted above?

Would the fact that most of Peninsular Charleston is built on landfill make it more susceptible to rising sea levels? There’s no bedrock under most of it. When I was there ‘75-‘79 the area from my backyard on Gadsden St to the Ashley River & from City Marina to the Coast Guard station had numerous homes condemned due to settling into the marsh. Piling multistory buildings and other concrete & asphalt structures built on mud dredged from the harbor and the detritus of 350 yrs of white habitation might have something to do with “rising sea levels”.

I visited it an old prison in Charleston about 10 years ago that was once used in the 18th century. It’s near the water and the land has sunk so much that the street is a couple of feet above the bars. Land subsidence is a real thing.

I believe the fossil record would suggest otherwise. There are marine life fossils in the sedimentary rock of the world, even at elevations as high as the Himilayas? I am fairly certain I have read this? Now what would marine life be doing up on the top of the Himalayas, a great flood notwithstanding? You are correct I believe that the pre-flood seas would've been less salty than the post-flood seas. That seems counter-intuitive, but the great exposure to elements and likely great mixing would've made the seas salty. I have read that. Saltwater and freshwater can stay chemically stratified for very long periods, saltwater being more dense. The existence of anadromous and catadromous species and the ability of osmotic regulation in some species is interesting as it relates to this question. Like or similar species in fresh and salt (catfishes) is also interesting.

I cannot help you on the aquarium pondering. But the agnostic is better not to argue against a great flood given the overwhelming evidence in sedimentology, marine life fossils found routinely on the highest mountains of the world, mass fossil graveyards in sedimentary rock, sedimentary rock making up 75% of the earth's surface, deposition of rock materials hundreds of miles from where those rocks occur, Black Sea shoreline hundreds of feet deep and carbon dating to Noah's time, compelling geologic evidence in China. Man I could go on for days. Aquariums or not there WAS a great flood.

I am not saying this conforms with my beliefs but interesting things to ponder. (No pics!)

Specifically I tend to be an old earth Christian. Micro evolution is absolutely real. Macro evolution (origin of the species) theory is very implausible.

If you eliminate the deep ocean trenches there’s enough water on earth to cover the entire earth at 1.5 miles deep!! Wow. Staggering to think about. Timing of continental drift etc. interesting stuff. So much we do not know and will never know conclusively. I’ll tell you one thing though, the supernatural God and Jesus are real. I can’t prove good to you but He has proven Himself to me.

I’m 70. In the 1960’s we were taught to fear the coming Ice Age. In the 1980’s it was global warming. Now the alarmists just call it climate change so they can strike fear when just about anything happens such as a flood, hurricane, or tornado.

It’s all brainwashing, which is surprisingly easy to do, so that the powers that be can control large swaths of people.

There may be climate change. After all, the poles were once tropical. Climate changes all the time. It changes four times a year where I live. The real question is whether it’s caused by man. I think very, very little.

I grew up on Johns Island in the 1960s and 70s and I have a brother and 2 sisters who still live on the same property there. The property tends to hold more water for longer periods after a rainfall event than it used to but it is because so much of the area around them that used to be wetlands is now covered with asphalt or concrete. This has nothing to do with the levels of the salt water around them or any type of climate change but is certainly man-made because of the amount of building that has occurred on the island. What I do find somewhat amazing is that they are building so many homes on low-lying land that would have never been approved for building 50 years ago. They are also building in areas that will be prone to pretty extreme flooding if another hurricane similar to Hugo were to hit there.

None of those numbers mean anything. There are hundreds of variables not accounted for. Why were those two particular years chosen? How many flood events in 2022? 1923? 1919? How has the topography changed in the surrounding area since then? Were low-lying wetlands and drainage areas filled in since then? Were the areas that were recorded flooded in 2023 inhabited in 1922 and were these water levels recorded in 1922? The main culprit to increased flooding is poor stormwater management. All of the additional roads, parking lots, roofs, and other impermeable areas send additional runoff into ditches, streams, lakes, and ultimately rivers that ends up overloading waterways and causing flooding.

But he was absolutely sure that it had been there for billons and billons of years. It had to be, because it was found near the marker in the photo. I'm guessing that a dinosaur had dinner on the seashore and ran up 7000 ft to dumped a load.

Very disappointed that a USFS ranger wouldn’t know the answer because it is generally understood that that part of North America was covered by a large ocean during the Cretaceous period 145-66M years ago during which time there were no polar ice caps, global climate was much warmer & CO2 levels much higher. Yes you will note that was some few years before the internal combustion engine began its relentless destruction of Mother Earth. Subsequently geologic lift and cooling caused the sea floor to rise & the sea levels to fall, putting that fossil on dry land and elevating it to its current resting place 7K feet above sea level.

On the other hand, being a Federal government employee he was probably hired on the basis of his general ignorance of paleontology and geology.

Could man made global warming delay or offset the next Ice Age? Would losing New York, Miami, New Orleans, and Holland be worse than an ice sheet covering 2/3 of North America and Europe? These are the questions I would like to see answered before I buy an electric car.

lol…and electric cars are being proven to not be so good for the environment after all. The energy to extract minerals for batteries is astronomical… and not electric. The grid you are plugging your car in to…what is powering that?

One of my professors in college was an Astronomy authority. There was a big meeting every year out west and he would be one of the speakers. He wanted everyone to know he came from a college that starts off with 'The' in front of their name.

He said what the hell bound money snatching woke liberals didn't want anyone to know is not only does the earth rotate it also has a wobble that tilts forward and backward. It takes several decades for it to tilt in the forward position which causes warmer temperatures. It then starts tilting back and, after decades, the temps are much cooler. A natural process since God made the earth and nothing the ozone, or man, has to do with it. Just another propaganda scheme thrown out there to rake in tax money thrown toward something that cannot, and will not, be affected by man. Our foolish, gullible, younger generation will believe anything false the left wing crooks scheme up.

Most of NOAA weather stations are located in areas that give distorted readings due to heat retention in their location like roof tops, ac fans, asphalt parking lots etc. Lets say these stations have average temps of 102, urban area stations record temps of 96 and rural areas record temps of 93. Which temp will be reported on the nightly weather report, 102 of course. Are you beginning to get the picture.

THE REAL PROBLEM WITH CLIMATE CHANGE

2

Climate change is not caused by, nor exacerbated by human activities whatsoever. Climate change occurs at these levels on a cyclical basis due to the Precession of the Equinox and other galactic cycles. The estimated 27,000-year cycle has been the cause of every Ice Age and every major global flood since the beginning of time. Human beings can no more cause harm as they can prevent it. The Earth's current Co2 level in the atmosphere is recorded at 0.04%. To display a comparison, Venus is 800*Fahrenheit with a Co2 level of 96.5%. The average median for Earth is 0.03%, and if those Co2 levels drop to 0.02%, then all plant life begins to die on Earth.

There exists evidence found with the discovery of the frozen Wooly Mammoth. Evidence suggesting that the previous Ice Age which occurred 10,000 years ago, did so rapidly with great effect. The Wooly Mammoth carcass which was uncovered in Siberia was fully preserved as if flash frozen. The more interesting finding was that the last meal of that Mammoth was still preserved in its stomach. The food contents of the stomach consisted of several plant species which are of a tropical climate. Now, I'm not a gambling man, but if I were I would reason to believe that Siberia at one time was a tropical climate. Unless of course, the Wooly Mammoth traveled 3,500 miles every day for lunch. Some studies have discovered that the Earth's median temperature prior to the previous Ice Age was 4*Celsius higher than today's median average. That's a whopping 39* Fahrenheit.

In short, Co2 levels are nowhere near the dangerous levels to create a cause for concern. Yet, political activists will say otherwise and lobby to generate legislation that restricts our personal liberties. What's more disgusting would be the legislation which is passed that requires the consumer to purchase products from companies owned by the said environmental activists and their political cronies. Further, adding a carbon tax, EPA fees, or other penalties will not solve even one environmental crisis. The sad part is that millions of third world nations lose access to their drinking water each year due to lithium mining which poisons the ground well water and causes a real humanitarian crisis. Yet, those facts are not convenient for Greta Thunberg or Al Gore who merely want the appearance of cleanliness and "renewable" energy in the eyes of the masses who live in developed nations. Are we awake yet? No? Good, keep voting. It matters not who you vote for, the tables are tilted in favor of those who hold office and those who hold office tend to be owned by those who fund their campaigns. As for me, I've never voted, and I probably never will until someone who is reasonable with common sense runs for office independently from donors and special interest groups.

As for rising ocean levels... I disagree completely because in Nova Scotia, the shoreline has expanded, and waterlines have receded back towards the ocean by 150 meters in the past 35 years. Ocean levels are not rising whenever new islands are created annually around the world. If anything, seismic activities are causing the ocean floor to rise and fall which creates the appearance of rising or receding water tables.

Just my two cents for what it's worth. GO TIGERS!

I wouldn't argue that it's a communistic plot against the freedoms of America. I would say it's more of a scam to have people buying renewable energy that's not really renewable, cost effective, or efficient enough to support our energy requirements. The only ones who will benefit from the legislative policies are the lobbyists, politicians who own equity in "clean" energy firms, and those who are climate activists that have a special interest or equitable holding in companies marketing worthless technology that amounts to nothing more than a money pit.

I agree with what you said; however we cannot loose sight of the fact that we are in a battle. The battle is between our Lord God Jehovah and Mammon. Yes, good against evil.

You see those that take on these anti American causes have chosen Communism as their their religion. Marx as their god. The Constitution stands in their way, the Bill of Rights is a detriment to the cause.

The gift our founders gave us is under attack as never before. Our country is one election away from a dark and dreary future.
