… when Danny Ford was ousted.
What he specifically felt or did from that position, I do not recall.
But, the BOT as a body supported Max Lennon and his desire to get rid of Ford.

Didn't remember that Caddie. Dark days in early 1990. If he spearheaded Danny's demise, glad he is no longer part of the university BOT.

Max Lennon's daughter lives across the street from me. While very nice folks they park directly in front of my driveway on a narrow street EVERY SINGLE DAY. Makes it a huge PIA to pull in and out. Then every night they move them back into their driveway. I haven't the faintest idea why they do this. Maybe it's because they are state fans and know I'm a Clemson guy 🤣

I have a neighbor that works for BMW and is very proud. So proud that he has more BMW's in his driveway than people living in the house to drive them so they park in the damb street. Problem is it's the first house to turn onto the street so you either have to time it where someone isn't leaving the neighborhood or risk smacking the chit out of one of his stupid cars. I've been tempted more than once.

You say they are nice people. And yet, you don't bother to approach them and simply ask them what's going on, and to tell them that their actions cause you a "PIA" every single day!
What's going on with you? Seems like a couple of neighbors with reasonable intelligence and kindness could work something out. If they are unreasonable when you approach them about the issue, then you have a reason to #####. And you can then use the incident to either confirm they actually are nice people, or not!
Just MHO!

Love Danny Ford. They Caused us over 20 years in the wilderness! BUT, without Tommy Bowden, we don’t get Dabo.
Let the kid go? No disrespect…. If he does not want to play for Clemson baseball, we’ll get someone that does.

Amick and Lawrence Gressette controlled the BOT in those days and both supported getting rid of Danny. Bobby Robinson was against it but had no say in the matter. Biggest mistake Clemson ever made. Keeping Brownell close second.

SMU had just gotten the death penalty. The NCAA had tons of power. Everyone wanted to appear squeaky clean. Lot's of power play between the Clemson President, BOT and the AD.
Now, the NCAA is weak. Blue Blood programs like UNCheat can manufacture classes and grades for athletes...but call it an academic issue, not NCAA's business. NCAA was overruled on NIL.. basically a feckless organization.
Without Danny's firing, we might never have gotten Dabo and 2 Natty's.

I have this from people who sat in on meetings where Danny totally disrespected the guy who was his boss, and indirectly disrespected the university president and the BOT.
And of course Danny totally disrespected the administration while out on the IPTAY trail.
Not saying Danny was right or wrong in his personal attitude, but his inability to rein it in it cost him and Clemson a great deal over the next 20 years.

My late father hated Amick for his role in getting rid of Danny. That was some serious chikin chit. Not to mention that POS Monte Kiffin when he was at NC State...who flat out lied about Danny.

Injun is correct

This way it explained to me:
NCAA was about to hammer Clemson. It was actually a bunch of junk but Vince Dooley had a lot of influence with infractions committee (he had been chairman). UGA was furious we were getting so many good players out of Georgia. John Johnson was the last straw.
ACC teams had also been tired of getting destroyed t throughout 80s even while we on probation
Not sure that threatened death penalty but it was supposed to be pretty bad.
Supposedly they ( Clemson leadership) offered up Danny in exchange for some Leniency….. and
probation was pretty mild
Some dispute this version of events but this is version from those I think were most in the know

Most of the more serious charges stemmed from an overzealous booster in Knoxville. But tobacco road (with the exception of Wake, who actually fought for us) really pushed hard for the death penalty.

The Knoxville guy was the early 80s probation. That was when the two Tennessee kids weee interviewed on ABC by Lampley
We got two years from NCAA and the third from ACC 82–83-84
That is why we feared death penalty because all of this was just 5 years after got off probation and we saw what happened to SMU

The way I remember when Billy got on the board he was a big Danny guy. Probably as you are on there for a while you realize there is more to Clemson than football and begin to prioritize other aspects of the University. Somewhere along the line Danny POd the wrong people or misjudged his power. I’ve always said if “whatever” Danny did if it was bad enough for Billy to go along with the rest of the board for removal I could accept that and move on
