Can Matt Luke work miracles?

I, along with I am sure just about everybody else, am STOKED about the hire of Matt Luke as O-Line coach. You can't get a better pedigree than winning the Natty, which was his last accomplishment before stepping away from the game. And, it was at Georgia, which, whatever you may think about them, has seemingly always had a good running attack, which requires good blocking.
But, should we temper our enthusiasm, just a little? After all, we just went through a season where we had THE shiniest new toy of an Offensive Coordinator that was out there to hire, and HE certainly was not able to make a Silk Purse from a Sow's Ear. But, the argument COULD be made that one reason he wasn't able to, was poor offensive line play. Cade certainly never, at ANY time during the season, had the ten seconds that Bama's QB had to look around, read a book, and then throw the winning TD against Awbarn. More often than not, he was having to run for his life.
The recruiting rankings SAY that we SHOULD have the talent in house to effect this change on the O-Line. If so, then this will, without a doubt, be a quick referendum of the lack of coaching that group has received up until now. But, wait a minute, we are actively out recruiting the PORTAL for offensive linemen! So apparently, our new coach, who can certainly evaluate film, thinks those rankings must have been wrong.
Given that reality, how much improvement can we expect to see for the bowl game? Probably minimal, but I would at LEAST hope the group as a whole will be more disciplined, and not have the number of self inflicted wounds (Blake Miller false starts, etc) that we have exhibited so far in the season. In our Championship years, that was a plus, we were FAR less penalized than any of our opponents.
When EVERYBODY is a big, strong guy, Offensive (or Defensive, for that matter) Line play is as much mental as it is physical. Technique is everything, to be able to move another big human where they do not want to go, but where YOU want them to go. If Coach Austin truly lacked the knowledge of those "inside tricks" of the trade, then some of that improvement WILL begin to show itself in the bowl game. The jury is certainly out at this point in time, but hope springs anew.

Players win, not coaches. When we made the changes in the lineup, our line played much better so hopefully the players are there.

Pedigree refers to ancestry so I think you meant resume which refers to work experience.
I think we will show improvement as soon as next fall but the real improvement will be a couple years out when his recruits are on the field

It seems that one of the big signs to look for on offensive linemen would be quickness, able to move with quick nimble feet all coupled with strength and size. Probably wouldn’t hurt to put these guys in a jitterbug class as additional training.

At this point seeing is believing for me. We hear every spring from Dabo about depth on the offensive line, and how good a certain position /player is and seems it never pans out. White Luke has the resume and im glad Austin is gone I'll believe it when I see it.

The Bama qb had time to read a book and another 10 seconds to throw the miracle TD because the stupid awburn defensive coordinator chose to rush 2 people against 5 blockers.

Good question 76er. Hopefully the oline guru's will correct where I'm wrong. We recruited a quicker, lighter oline philosophy last decade. Austin went to recruiting heavy stronger... more like uga as I understand it. Which is OK.
Again, as I understand, Riley wants the pulling (zone) blocking scheme? but as we know it wasn't working out at 4-4. I could have it reversed. My apologies. So anyway, we simplified it in ND and ever since.
It's my understanding Riley wants the more complicated pulling scheme in order to implement his offense. Is it Cade changing blocking assignments based on pre snap and oline couldn't get it? Didn't understand it, D changed post snap, or just the oline couldn't execute it. We're not sure. It'd will be interesting to see what happens in the spring. I don't expect anything for the bowl.
I guess we'll see if we have the talent to adjust or whether it'll take recruiting. Hopefully we have enough talent. I think we do because when we changed scheme and ran.
Good thoughts and question.

I think you will see immediate improvement!

1. We will have the RS Freshman playing from Texas who has been on campus now since; I believe last January. 2. Enthusiasm and Fire. Moving another large human where they do not want to go as you said, takes a lot of desire and technique(manipulation). Luke will be motivated after taking a year off and will want to set the record straight out of the gate about his expectations. 3. Nobody has a starting job with a new OL coach. The fact he doesn't know anyone will motivate the reserves and RS players. Everyone who wants to be in his good graces will go out and play their behinds off. Clean slate and a chance to show the new boss what you have.
I agree; we won't look as good as we can under Luke. He will need time to get the type of OL he prefers. But, to answer the question, I think there is a distinct possibility we see an immediate fight and desire out of the OL. Improvement - likely! Kentucky has a big dude like Duke did in the middle of their defense that's a beast to move. So, a very good way to find out where everyone's heart is.

It's not talking crap about Austin saying Luke is better OL coach. Who knows how Austin will be when he's been at it as long as Luke has.
The BIGGEST improvement will be in RECRUITING , Again ,Luke has a NAME and Track record Austin doesn't have yet.

Who plays center next year? I don't know if any of the current listed centers can be very good.
