He’s not perfect but neither was TL or DW. Cade is reeling and not all plays are his fault, see sc jr game, but wow he’s lit it up mostly this year, plus he’s getting playmakers around him! Here’s to a great night for CK2 and all the Tigers!!

What year was TL or KB better than Cade this year? Both of them were statistically very average QB's being saved by great defenses.

Cades 12th in QBR this season and has accounted for 36 TDs with 5 ints. Sure he could be better but there's nothing statistically average about any of that and KB never even remotely sniffed those numbers despite being on a far superior team.

I only have DJU above those guys because I was ranking regular starters…I suppose he would be below everyone if we added the backups too or at least below Chase Brice.
Yes I have Kelly Bryant over CK2 currently, Bryant is very under appreciated IMO, he only lost two games at Clemson, one was due to injury and one was a CFP game. He marched us to the ACC title in his one year as a starter with no problem.
Cade definitely has more talent as a passer than KB, but so far I think KB was the more efficient QB and better in big games ( he rallied us past ATM to start 2018, a lot of people forget that)
KB’s main issue was he was not better than TL, and no one is, and he didn’t take being passed on the depth chart well. But at least he got out of town quickly.

KB was DJ with a set of wheels. He had a vastly superior roster around him than Cade does now.
KB was also the beginning of Dabo relying on the defense to win and playing to control clock. Luckily even playing like that Tlaw and Etienne would still explode.

KB is absolutely better than CK2. He was a gamer. He maybe couldn’t throw the deep ball great but we made plays when we needed them and ran the ball very well. His legs opened up a lot for us.

KB=DJ. Not seeing your view on him. He is great against scrubs. Less than average against elite defense. Even in those 7 on 7 and 5 man “pro” leagues he played in. Against decent coverage he couldn’t hit water if he fell out of a boat 1000 miles from land

I get the KB criticisms I really do and he was only average at Missou.
But could you guys see Cade leading us back at Kyle Field like he did in 2018?
Would KB go rogue and call his own play against Miami like Cade did? Would he throw a last second INT against the Coots? Would he lose to Duke?
I know that these aren’t really fair hypotheticals but Cade to me is just still lacking mentally as a QB:.. but he has time to get better so I’m not writing him off!

I'm flipping Cade and Kelly Bryant. Kelly Bryant had effectively the best team ever supporting him (it's basically the 2018 team) but was such a terrible QB we had our second-most ineffective offensive performance ever against Alabama. You can't rank a QB incapable of completing a past. Here is the definitive ranking of Clemson QBs in that time period.
1. Deshaun Watson - 2016 was a one man show. He had ice in his veins, a pure winner
2. Trevor Lawrence - 2018 was the best freshman campaign ever, but had to rank him lower because he had issues in big moments after that
3. Tajh Boyd - Just a stat machine and won the ACC
Absolutely Massive Gap
4. Cade Klubnik - Middling thus far, but had bright points
5. Kelly Bryant - At least could scramble and the team did make the playoffs
Huge Gap
6. Chase Brice - He saved a national championship season
7. Cole Stoudt - The Oklahoma game was kind of crazy, even if he sucked most of his career
8. DJU - Literally the only game we can point to is his throwing a ton of yards against ND but losing

This is the right list. No shade to Kelly B but Clemson won games with Kelly Bryant not because of him.
If Cade had the support cast that Bryant had, we would have had a different year this year and last.

He is wildly inconsistent , hasn’t won big game since ??? He has feasted on cupcake defenses and sucked against good ones . The stupid pass behind d Mafah that cost us a chance last weekend is a summary of his play . A veteran 5 star QB can’t make those freshman mistakes and he does it over and over again!

He has taken a ton of steps forward this year. Much more willing to take downfield shots (because our WRs are much better) and use his legs. 36 TDs overall to hurt five picks speaks for itself. He still has room to grow with decision making and accuracy, and it’s fun to watch a guy grow. Passing attack has a lot of potential with Williams, Wesco, Moore and Brown (hopefully) back around him and Matt Luke having another offseason to boost the line

Everyone makes bonehead decisions.
I remember DW spiking the ball on 4th down to stop the clock at the goal line in a game. If I think hard enough I could give you one Trevor did as well.
Cade look extremely good in his last game. A lot had to do with the fact he had good protection. It was the best I've seen in awhile and it was a concern of mine in the SC game. They were touting their DL as one of the best in the country.

Everybody is human but Cade hasn't proven he can take over when the game is on the line. Elite QBs do this. Some of this is playcalling and overall offensive staleness/philosophy. However, Cade hadn't shown any consistency against good or better competition. Stats are great for the papers but when players put up numbers against inferior teams these accomplishments are mostly meaningless. Cade has had a good season from a statistics standpoint, but if the game is on the line or the competition has increased, he has yet to prove anything.

Dabo has not let him have that opportunity. Deshaun threw 17 ints his last year, but Dabo kept letting him sling it and go win games. The defense is back on that level, not very good. Give the QB free reign and let him be great.

He’s a good quarterback but special? Nope. Not even. 7 losses or is it 8? He may be top 10 for Clemson quarterbacks but he lacks something that refuses to lose. Good kid. Wish him well but these days I’d rather have a good fullback and watch us run the option. We could at least get a yard.

That's literally why Clemson lost games this year. Trying to force Mafah and lean on defense. The defense is not good enough to win games like that and the only homerun potential is at wr.
This is not a TLaw Etienne type team, it's closer to Watsons teams except Gallman was significantly better than Mafah.

Cade is not elite, he's better than last year, but not an elite QB. His stats look great on paper but against our schedule they are mostly meaningless. Consider our record against quality opponents this year. We are 1-3 against quality competition. Cade's biggest victory...the UNC game where he replaced DJU. Elite QBs put up stats against elite teams, not against App St/NC State/Citadel etc. He still has room to improve but the missed slant against SC on third down, the bumbled trick play (although that was a terrible play call), and the throw behind Mafah are just recent plays where the game was on the line and he failed. He has room to improve, and has gotten better, but his track record screams anything but elite.

He was coached to look for 9 in the end zone and if he wasn’t open throw the ball out of bounds and move on to third down. Even a true freshman QB knows not to try to dump it down to the RB in that situation.
He’s has grown a lot this year and makes fewer boneheaded plays than he did last year, but he still has a lot of development left to make. At this point he’s not even in the same time zone as Trevor or DW4; it ridiculous to even compare him to those guys.

Agreed, everyone here forgets how many turnovers Watson was responsible for. He was a gunslinger, big plays but he was a risk taker. Dabo used to trust his QB to make more explosive plays than bad plays even when mistakes were made. I wish he'd give Cade that luxury bc this defense is not good enough to carry the team like BVs were and there is not a homerun threat like Etienne on the team atm.

We are nowhere without Cade. Has had a good to almost great year. If we didn’t crawl into a ball in 2nd half’s he would have been even better. Last 4 games no rushing attack with hurt Mafah. Won that pittsburgh game with sharp passing 1st half and the game saving run. Problem is the conservative coaching on offense with our young defense.

He’s slightly above average. Two full seasons as a starting QB in college football is enough evidence to prove that. He played well against bad teams this season and that’s it. Looks very average at best against decent teams.

That’s fair. But I think he has it in him. GO TIGERS!!!! Clemson daughter on her way to Charlotte with her gang!! One thing I can tell you after tailgating last week and watching a good game with sad result. The students are soo into it. Stadium was electric. They love their tigers  .
