Best seafood in Calabash NC???

Headed to Holden Beach tomorrow and wanting to drive down to Calabash one night for some good seafood. Any suggestions?

Dockside used to be the best one down there . We have had some “hit and miss” meals there the last few years . I think Ella’s , though smaller and not right at the dock , is much more consistent .

Sea Food Hut. Not much to look at, but very good food. Old diner type place with formica tables and vinyl chairs.. I usually go there for lunch.

The Seafood Hut is consistent. Great fried food, reasonably priced and if you go early you can get special pricing.

We typically go to Dockside because of tradition but I agree with the above post that it has been hit or miss lately. We ended up at Beck's one time because every place else was full and to be honest it was pretty tasty.

Been going to Ella's since 1956. Always loved Price's (which is now Dockside), but price has gone up and quality inconsistent for the last 15 years or so.

Great hamburgers. If you want fried seafood, theirs is really good and they say it’s local fresh caught. It’s believable.

Seafood Hut. As stated above, small, dated, crowded but all the seafood you can eat on one plate at a very reasonable price. Best time to go during the Summer is odd hours like 11:00 a.m., 2:00-4:00 p.m.

If you wanted to go a little further south Drunken Jack's Restaurant in Murrells Inlet is the best and well worth the drive if your looking for a wow experience. It’s my favorite anywhere.

I know you won't asking for Shallotte but it's right up the road and it's our favorite restaurant in the area.
We have a place in Ocean Isle so were there often and eat at Inlet View several times per year.
Bonus: our kids love it too

Yes, that’s our favorite on that end of the beach, it’s closer so we actually go there more than drunken jacks.

We ate at inlet view tonight and it was AWESOME! Fried oysters po boy was great.

There's a little hole in the wall seafood restaurant in Calabash and I think it's name is the Seafood Shack. As you're coming from SC to Calabash you turn right at the stoplight , go about a quarter mile and it will be on your left. Great fried seafood at a reasonable price.

Our family has been doing lunch at Ella's for 25 years. I have never experienced anything so consistently good!
Your going to the the right town....cant imagine 'bad' meal at any of the places that have been mentioned.
Good dining my friend, and would like to hear YOUR findings.

That is like asking who is the best football player at SCAR
Calabash is seafood all fried together in the same fry basket at the same time and it comes out all with a mono taste. Shrimp taste like crab and vice versa. The same thing can be said about the flounder, hush puppies, scallops, etc.

There a great (food wise) dive in Little River called Crab Catchers. And it really is a dive, but they serve very good seafood (catch of the day right out their door! as well as other.)

The reason why there’s so much debate is because for the most part fried seafood is hit or miss depending on when a specific restaurant changes their grease. The best fried seafood is done at home.
