After thinking about it a couple of days....

9

Sep 11, 2023, 7:03 AM

...in my very unexpert opinion, my biggest concern for this year's football team is Cade seems to make very poor decisions when under pressure.

He's young. A true sophomore. He's inexperienced. Started only 4 games. I hope he gets better. I think he will. But, I am no coach or psychologist. My expertise would end at, "Cade, quick making bad decisions when you get under pressure."

But, for whatever it's worth, I think if that problem is fixed, then the complaints about play calling, wide receivers not getting open, no speed at WR, poor coaching, soft team, etc. would diminish greatly.

bad.

Also, we've had 2 fumbles because of his indecisiveness on the option hand off.

Also, I believe Riley is giving him only 2 reads per pass play. The INT had Briningstool open in the flat on the opposite side but Cade was never going to look that way.

I can agree with that, however there are great QBs who make intentional grounding calls all the time. I think he got hit and didn't have quite enough strength as he got hit to get it out of bounds or closer to a receiver.

Maybe, they were right and holding Klubnik back was the right call because of his decision making last year. However, he is our guy now and we have to accept the growing pains and think he will be fine

Two reads per play.

I'm not football smart enough to know if that is the case or not.

But, I did hear E. J. Manuel (former FSU QB and first round draft pick of Buffalo Bills, so he should know something) and Eric Mac Lain say that Cade looked like he was "clocked on one receiver" way too often.

Maybe it is because that is the way he is being coached. I have no idea.

But, I will make this observation.

I think it was the first play of the game, but I'm not sure.

Clemson in a 3 X 1 WR set. 3 to the right, 1 to the left.

Looked to me like the 1 was open on a go pattern, but Cade never looked that way.

Maybe Cade is being given a presnap read to only look at one side of the field. I have no idea.

The fumble on 4th down was caused by a bad snap to his left.

He never had possession before the ball bounced out of Mafah's hands.

Agree, all except WR play.

we used to be the standard. As late as 2020.

We aren’t even in the ballpark now. Haven’t been for 3 years. This team/ program goes nowhere without playmakers. DJU wasn’t a great QB, but he was a mountain of a man when it came to being a whipping post. smdfh

The problem is Cade

6

Sep 11, 2023, 7:51 AM

The WRs have been schemed wide open all game, each of the first two games and yes, with separation. Cade is in over his head at the moment, he will get better but we are probably about a year away from that. The OL has also been fantastic, the only problem is Cade.

Is it he's just not seeing (or trusting) his pre and post defense reads? Yeah, we moved the ball at will, scored points etc Sat than at Duke, but everything still seems horizontal. The few times we've gone deep (more than 10-15 yards) it looks like Cade misses his timing. Either throws it too late or too early.

We can't expect to beat good teams on the edge. Fsu and probably even Nancy St will blow up the behind the line dump to ship. What do you think. Hlrt

He just needs more time to develop, he’s not trusting his protections and gets happy feet and creates a dirty pocket instead of sitting back and making reads. Not sure if you’ve watched much Colorado this year but he’s basicallly the exact opposite of Sheudor Sanders. SS got sacked 6 times Saturday because he’s not afraid to get hit and his eyes are always down the field and he just sits in the pocket. Cade has to find the right balance of using his athleticism when needed and when to stay in the pocket and go through his progressions because the throws are there, WRs are open. And I think this all goes back to him getting more experience. We can 100% beat FSU of Cade plays a clean game.

statements. He's clearly attributed much of the scoring problems with the inability to get deep.

QB problem IS fixed for sure......so is playcalling.....

WR is not. Charleston Southern didn't "fix" our WRs.

I'd consider playing Hamp Green more. He was covered, made a big effort play, and maintained possesion during a hit.

Cade is incredibly accurate and can drop it over and under and gets the WR screens out in pretty good spots (other than the first few against Duke). He also generally makes a quick read and delivers a catchable ball. Those are great blocks to build on. They just have to keep drilling him to climb the pocket and don’t throw off the back foot. Throw it away is a good option sometimes.

He missed several wide open targets Saturday. I can't

3

Sep 11, 2023, 7:36 AM

remember how many but there were several. I'm not sure if he is locking on his primary target and forgetting about the rest. I have faith and hope this turns around quickly.

Everything looks fast for Cade ATM, but I think by the end of the season, he will be comfortable in the offense and the talent that’s obvious will shine. You can’t deny his athleticism, accuracy, enthusiasm and leadership. I see it, and really feel he will prosper. Having said that, it makes you appreciate more how good “out of the box” TL16 and DW4 were. It’s more rare than we think.

He doesn't seem to process his checkdowns very well...tends to get happy feet and bail out of the pocket instead of stepping up in the pocket. Very jittery and tends to overthrow a lot of targets. Poor clock management. These are all signs of a young QB....he needs more reps.

Screw Calford.

I heard an NFL coach say, years ago,...

... probably back in the 1970's, "Quarterbacking is simple. Every pass play has reads. They are always the same. Touchdown, first down, check down, get down."😁

Tahj had this too. He gave us dome great games if course, but when tge pressure was up he'd get this look in his eyes... I have to believe Cade will get this further behind him as he gets more reps ( and line play improves). All to say, I agree with you.

I remember against the coots he played like he'd seen a ghost....all wide-eyed and played scared. Deshaun came in and told the team we weren't going to lose to the coots and he beat them on one leg. The ultimate coot killer, if you ask me.

I really do believe that teaching Cade not to throw an awful ball when he’s getting tackled is an easily fixable issue. You remove that & the Charleston Southern game is 66+ - 10.

I also believe the snap handling issues are fixable with some extra reps. Remove those errors & the CSU game is 66+ - 3. Plus probably a win against Duke.

This team is very good. I don’t see a lot of the issues a lot of other people are going on & on about. I feel like the defense is great. Receivers look more promising than expected. Just polish up the ball handling & dumb decisions by Cade & Clemson is a very good team.
