Swannanoa Tiger

Hey T-Netters,
ME '91 Tiger here.
We're on day 7 here in Swannanoa now, and all is well with the old rat and madam rat, as well as our entire family.
I'm a Swannanoa native, and other than the 4 (and a half (dang you, MATH208)) years I lived in our beloved Clemson, I've lived here my entire life.
I have no idea what the 'outside' knows about the destruction here, but the main Swannanoa area now looks like Cite Soleil on the edges of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
It's bad here.
If anyone wants to get involved, I personally recommend Hearts With Hands. They do disaster relief on a huge scale and they are equipped, trained, and ready to respond. Their headquarters are right here in Swannanoa and now they are responding right in their backyard. They get relief to people right away and I think the world of them.

Go Tigers!

This emergency has me a bit angry. People are dead and dying due to lack of federal help. The news is saying that they spent most of the FEMA money on illegal immigrant housing and food. Mayoress says there isn’t enough money to handle an emergency like this because of it.

Prayers have been streaming out since day one by many. We have been donating because we live in eastern NC and have lived through quite a few hurricanes the last 25 years and know what it’s like. This is Katrina x 10. Hang in there. Many people care and are doing what they can!

Might need to check your facts.
X and Newsmax and FOX do not.

Replying to the rumor that funding for FEMA disaster response had been "diverted to support international efforts or border related issues," the government agency said on its specially dedicated fact check page: "This is false. No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. FEMA's disaster response efforts and individual assistance is funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts. Disaster Relief Fund money has not been diverted to other, non-disaster related efforts."

A Department for Homeland Security spokesperson told Newsweek: "These claims are completely false. As Secretary Mayorkas said, FEMA has the necessary resources to meet the immediate needs associated with Hurricane Helene and other disasters."

"The Shelter and Services Program (SSP) is a completely separate, appropriated grant program that was authorized and funded by Congress and is not associated in any way with FEMA's disaster-related authorities or funding streams."

"FEMA does not ask for or generally accept any cash donations or volunteers for disaster response," the agency clarified, saying that anyone approached by a someone claiming to represent FEMA and asking for donations is likely to be a scammer.

It said that rumors regarding "turning away donations, stopping trucks or vehicles with donations, confiscating and seizing supplies often spread after a disaster" are all false.

"FEMA does not take donations and/or food from survivors or voluntary organizations," the agency said. "Donations of food, water, or other goods are handled by voluntary agencies who specialize in storing, sorting, cleaning, and distributing donated items."

FEMA gave 100s of millions to "Communities receiving migrants". This is a fact.

FEMA said just days ago it did not have enough funds.

That's for immediate needs like food and supplies. Of course there are many other resources available and coming available. You sound like a good democratic socialist. Call your congressman and ask them to approve more funding if you believe more resources are needed.

But hopefully all the migrants got their sex changes.

FEMA has enough money to help these victims.

And for future hurricanes, if there are any, congress can appropriate more funds...that would require Republicans to approve it, which is not a certainty.

And stop with the sex change & immigrant talk. You people are so triggered, it's ridiculous.

Are extremely red areas and being ignored for political reason, them not being able to vote or even caring to vote due to trying to survive in November in 2 swing states could be the difference in the election. I promise you if these were blue areas that Kamala would find the funds to fully support these areas and make them whole…. Don’t kid yourself otherwise.

The narrative that the Dems don't want to help "red areas" falls apart when you consider Asheville. And Kamala is not responsible for "funding" recovery at this point. This is congress' job. But if it's up to her and/or Biden, they will of course fund it to the greatest extent possible

You people will believe anything if it's written by certain social media influencers & politicians.

FEMA, along with other agencies in government are already on the ground trying to help people in a myriad of ways. As with any disaster, it will be a combination of federal, state, local and private help groups.

I know we're trying to win an election in a month and we need to slime Dems and Kamala, but this is just ridiculous.

Other than a roof leak, HWH came out in great shape.
Their building is VERY close to Bee Tree Creek, which became a raging river, but they suffered no food damage.
They are currently feeding and providing relief to thousands of people.
The National Guard come by and pick up meal boxes (prepared on-site) and carries those far into remote areas.

You political dudes could probably find another, less time-critical post to hijack (or start your own).
Swannanoa is a disaster and if you're interested in spending your coins in way that they won't be wasted I was trying to let you know.
My daughter (Architecture '23) and I spent all morning running my saw with search crews along the waterways as they looked for remains.
It's bad - I don't care if there's fed money or not - I'm just letting people know of an organization that gets stuff done and makes their resources last and reaches thousands of people in need who happen to now be right in their backyard.
