I agree that it really needs to be looked at closely.
Spurrier said his first choice is talking about 300 per game for parents to travel to see their kids. Obviously if the kid wanted it all he said that is his families option.
Dabo agreed as well and agreed the coaches salaries could go to fund it.
Spurrier came out about it due to seeing lattimore (the best player to come through Columbia) having to catch rides because he didn't have a car. He had a father and mother active in his life who made enough to cut his ability to get grants etc. They couldn't buy him a car but he was not able to get the extra money as many probably can't due to 2 working parents even at minimum wage.
Obviously many come from crazy backgrounds and would be eligible for grants etc and could get money or loans on top of their schollie. Tough topic because where does it stop. Spurrier says it is only Basketball and Football, the money makers but other athletes may want it too
There are plenty of middle-class student-athletes in other sports that don't get full rides to go to school. Some of them run up huge loan bills in order to go to school and play a sport. I'm not in favor of anything that increases the already enormous disparity between the participants in the "important" sports and those in the other sports. Football and basketball players are getting their education paid for, no other student can get a free education by merely maintaining a 2.00 gpa.
