In the entire history of our program, Clemson has only been AP-ranked #13 or better at THIS POINT in the season OR LATER during the following years...
1975 1987 1997 2009 Right now.
Do the math on that.

I know a lot of our "fans" like to bash the ACC, partly to diminish our accomplishments, but our overall record and quality wins speak for themselves. We wouldn't be ranked #13 today if we were merely feasting on lowly ACC teams.
Go Tigers! Keep it up!

I believe the term is upset which basically happens to every team in every sport in every season with very few exceptions.

UNC won a natty after their coaching change. Duke is top 2 in the country right this second.
The issue is the next tier. NC State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech. All of them are down significantly.

It is one thing to acknowledge that the ACC is not as strong top to bottom.

Everyone sees that.
But it's another thing to go out of your way to bash the ACC every chance you get, with the intention of minimizing our accomplishments this season.
That's what some of you do, and it's not something real fans would do.

This is not at all surprising in this new generation of tiger fans.
There was a 50 post thread starting with how the baseball team isn't that good while they went undefeated on the weekend, and are ranked 7th in the nation.
Another thread about the demise of football who won a conference championship and made the CFP last season.
I've had my issues with Brownell and still question his decisions at the end of close games, but it's been a phenomenal back-to-back seasons. In case everyone has forgotten that they made the elite 8 last season.

We faced a tough New Mexico State team in the first round who won the Mountain West and was favored to beat us despite being the 11 seed, yet we won by 11.
In the second round, we faced a tough Baylor team that was seeded third and has a national championship winning head coach. They were also favored, but we beat them by 8.
In the Sweet 16, we faced 2 seed Arizona, who was favored. We won by 5.
Very impressive run last year. We can do it again, or possibly even exceed it, this year.

We can but Chase Hunter has to return to the same player he was last year during the tournament run. He was aggressive and really took charge during our run to the elite 8 . We have not seen that same player since early in the season this year for some reason .

That's just simply not true. Chase had one bad game against FSU. Other than that, he's been a scoring machine. It may "look different" than last year because he's got Zackery there to handle and distribute.

A good bit of Clemson “fans” have become brain rotted idiots. I don’t understand the obsession with having to #### one on sport to try and prop up another. They’re all wearing the same school across their chest. I want all teams to succeed and win championships don’t understand what’s so difficult about that

I'm so proud of this team. Realistically we have a good shot at a #3 seed. I see Texas Tech and TAMU both losing a couple more games. Wisconsin and Mich State play each other. If we take care of the remaining schedule and do well in ACCT we would make a string case for a #3 seed. If we somehow win the tournament we would in consideration for a #2.

Their schedule that year was a beast. Opened with the upset of Kentucky. ACC was loaded, Maryland still in the ACC. Something like 13 games vs top 25 teams. Got up to #2
Let's keep the momentum we have going!! ACCT and Final Four would be a dream.

Greg Buckner, Terrell McIntyre, Harold Jamison, Merl Code, Tony Christie, Tom Wideman, Iker Iturbe, Andruis Jurkunas, etc.
We had a favorable path to the Sweet 16, with Miami (OH) in round one and Tulsa in round two. Minnesota was a tough matchup in the Sweet 16. They deserved the 1 seed, and actually beat us twice that year.
The 96-97 season was definitely the high mark for Rick Barnes here. Our 97-98 team underachieved big time, and that was Rick's last one here.

That Minnesota game to go to the elite eight in 1997 was an awesome game..... The Gophers had Bobby Jackson and Sam Jacobsen. Went into double OT. Being from Minnesota, we always knocked the Gophers basketball program b/c basketball was what you played in the winter if you couldn't make the ice hockey team, but they were good and Clem Haskins was a great basketball coach.
Our Tigers that year were great too.... I never became a basketball fan till 1993 when my sister went to Duke and I saw a game in Cameron when I went to visit her when I was still in high school. When I watched those Barnes teams during my time at Clemson from 1995-1999, I became a HUGE basketball fan. I used to think any contact under the net was a foul, but I learned real quick it gets just as tough under the hoop as in ice hockey.
That game went into double OT and I remember it well. Classic game. Wish we would have had one or two more bounces go our way.

My favorite player was walk-on Bill Harder, the team doctor's kid. Would always try to start a "Release Harder" chant towards the end of games to try to get Barnes to play the walk-ons.
Jurkunas, Irbe, Wideman.... they were fun to watch. Wideman especially because he was so clunky.... he was always the key to the game. If ole Wideman could score 10, we were a lock to win.
Jamison, Buckner, and McIntyre were just special.... They showed up everyday and gave it all they had.
Christie and Code were solid too... If they were shooting well, we were tough to beat.
Such a good team.

are incapable of realizing this type of success at Clemson is not only rare, it is unheard of around Clemson basketball.
With that said, this season is still ongoing and as good as this team has been playing, they really need to finish the job. Possibly win ACC tourney, at least a game or 2...and another Sweet 16 would be a great continuance of this good mojo Clemson has going on the basketball court.

Most probably weren't old enough to see the ones before 2000. I loved that 1997 team with T-Mac, Buckner, Jamison, and Christie, I think they got up to #2 overall that year before running into Duncan's WF team. This team has all the tools to get back to the Elite 8 or better, we're shooting the ball well and playing tough D...lots of energy. Only sloppy turnover games have hurt us in the losses.
