had the foresight to hire Dabo, and Jeff Scott. Plus I think TB made it easier for his replacement to take Clemson to another level.
I am in no way minimizing the numerous contributions by Coach Howard and Coach Ford.

Hatfield/Tommy West years. He got the West End Zone started didn't he? He was fine for a few years, then something happened, and the team got the reputation that they would quit if you hit them hard enough. Very uncharacteristic.

Why would someone "blast away"???

Its the truth. And not only did Bowden initiate the huge facilities improvement at Clemson, he also emphasized academics and was, more or less, a pretty strict disciplinarian.
It was time for Bowden to shuffle off and its allowed the program to move up to another level....he was well compensated for his departure and could undoubtedly have taken another HC job had he so chosen. There were plenty of things to b*tch about during his tenure, but he also laid the groundwork for some good things too.

I like tommy. He brought us into the modern era of college football, and did not have the facilities that Dabo enjoys. I remember us feeling proud to get a handful of 4+ stars in each class under TB, right now we have 17.

Dabo has certainly taken things to another level with the help of Bowden.
But the getting the recruits is purely on Dabo...He's was left with who from TB era? CJ Spiller? Dabo has brought in the star studded impact players we haven't seen since the 80s.

If not for Wake Forest, TB might still be the coach ...

45-17, 12-7 ... fair or not, those two games were defining moments for TB's tenure as coach.
He recovered nicely from 45-17 in 2003, but that miserable 12-7 nightmare in Winston Salem was his un-doing.

I do not think Clemson folks have any disrespect for TB. He did a decent job here, but was not a championship calibur coach. It is hard to hit a HR with every hire. Some just have a less impact than others, but that does not take away the fact that he represented us well and put us in a better position to win.
He left the program better than he left in, and in that regard, he was a success.

The worst gameday coach I can remember. He truly looked lost on the sidelines when things were not going well. That being said, I would love to have kept him around in some capacity, like President of Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was the one who conceived the upgrades Dabo is now reaping the benefits of, and. let us not forget, the most important, soon to be reality, The OCCULUS!
