Just turned it to NBA and watched 10 total possessions. 9 of them were 3 point attempts with virtually no offensive plays. Of the 9 attempts 6 were bricks.
The sport has turned into a 3pt chucking competition

And everyone on every team thinks they can and is allowed to shoot the three. If you 7 footer is shooting threes there is no one to rebound but I guess that doesn’t matter.

I have not watched an NBA game in eight years. Even MLB has turned into a home run hitting contest. I guess the thinking is let's do as little as possible to make as much $$$ as possible. That's what made the NHL's Four Nations games so compelling. The players on these teams actually wanted to win badly. Just don't see this in so many other games.

The most efficient shots in basketball are

layups/dunks and 3 pointers. That's why most offenses are now built around floor spacing. That opens up the lane for drives to the basket and then if the defense brings help there's generally somebody left open for 3.
The league-wide 3pt % is around 36% which is pretty darn good. It's definitely not a brick-fest.
Now I will admit that the style of some of the offenses don't make for the best viewing experience. I always thought the Warriors were very entertaining whereas Houston with James Harden was generally terrible to watch - albeit very effective.
And not every single offense is built that way. The Nuggets running their offense through an extremely skilled 7ft center is quite different than running an offense through players like LeBron and Harden that just wanted to iso drive every trip down the floor.

I stopped watching years ago when referee Tim Donaghy was convicted of betting and fixing games. Additionally he conspired with other refs to show preferential treatment to some players while penalizing other with bogus calls (fouls, traveling). Once a sport gets tainted like that, the problem never really goes away.

There are no role players anymore. So boring and all the characters are gone, and I’m only 34 so I’m not just yelling at the clouds. Even from late 90s to mid 2000s it is completely unrecognizable

Loved Magic, MJ, Bird and that period of Basketball. Then they got into politics and I lost interest. I don't need Basketball players who have never had a job hating me because I'm not black.

You actually get maximum effort from the players and everyone is available - neither of which is always the case in the regular season.
You arent going to see many set plays at any time though - just a handful for special situations. Mostly there are just offensive concepts like pick and roll, inside-out, drive and kick, etc. These guys play with each other so much thar they just understand what to do and where to be on the floor without any need to draw it up on a whiteboard.

I do not know a white person that has watched the NBA is years , come to think of it, outside of maybe the finals I don’t know a black person that does.
Which goes to prove my theory that all races are more similar than different

Then I suggest you don’t watch.

Became a fan of the Magic with Shaq and Penny. Just watched a documentary about the first Dream Team and it's amazing the amount of talent they had on that team.
I know I'm biased, as would be any generation, but I think that was probably the best era of basketball. It combined the old school game of Bird, Magic, Kareem with the new school of Jordan and those guys. I'd say the inside game is what I miss the most. The 3-pointer isn't as exciting when they are all shooting it now.

I haven't watched an NBA game in 20 years, but I like seeing Shaq and Barkley on Youtube on the NBA show. They are funny as he!!. Larry Bird was probably my favorite player. He would even tell his defender what shot he would take, then make it.

Plus, guys like Lebron James make around 50 million per year just got basketball and not everything else. I respect people making us much as they can make, but it's hard to care when they lose. You see Higgins risking his body and grinding in the NFL and I still pull for him. Every game is so important in the NFL too and their careers can be so short. The NBA just doesn't grab me the way it used to.

The game on your average Sunday night half way through the season. Conversely the Olympic tournament was awesome. The best players in the world putting forth max effort every game; it was some of the best basketball I've ever seen. If they could somehow tie results on the court to compensation maybe it would improve; but now a days it seems like earlier every name player is on a max contract irrespective of how they perform.
