my thoughts on the Blossomgame tweet....

i think he is right. These Clemson basketball players are good kids who give their heart and soul to our university. Yes, they are on scholarship, but they put in countless hours to represent CLEMSON on their uniforms. The least the students can do is walk across campus and dedicate 2-4 hours per week for 4 months out of the year and support the team. Dont give me the crap about "well we arent any good"... who cares! its YOUR team.... show up and support them! There are some 17,000 Clemson students and i think there are about 1500 student seats reserved, are you telling me that we cant get 1/10th of the student body to come out and cheer for them?
sorry, i know this is beating a dead horse but they deserve the support!

I think part of the problem is the type of student now attending Clemson. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we are a top notch institution with tough standards, but legacy students and kids that grew up going to games with their parents are not getting accepted or not even applying. I remember Coach Bowden joking at Spring Meetings that at Duke they couldn't get the students out of the library long enough to attend football games. Are we starting to see that too? Heck, student attendance at football games is even down.

You do realize that we sell out 95% of games don't you? Students get the tickets. I know this because us students get an email from IPTAY every week during football season saying that the game has been sold out and the student section is now full.

I do realize that. I also can see with my own eyes the empty seats throughout the student section. It is one thing to pick up your student tickets but it is another thing to actually use them.

The empty seats are to do block seating by the fraternities and sororities. They get a certain allotment of tickets but many choose to stay at the tailgate drinking/ are to drunk to make it into the game. It has nothing to do with the library... Good try, but a swing and a miss.

Of bb and bb games. I took them for granted. If I could go back I would tell the younger me to go and appreciate every moment of those games.

Back in my day, the walk to LJ was just enough time ...

to smoke a doobie, and BS with some of my closest college buddies and intramural teammates about Clemson B-ball. The sweet fragrance floating across the old soccer fields ...
Got to watch the likes of ... Tree - great shot blocker Chubby Wells - a beta version of Charles Barkley Stan Rome - what an athlete Abraham - sweet jumper Greg Coles - gamer
And the foundation for a great NCAA run ... Larry Nance - who would have known as a freshman Moose Campbell from Anderson - An intimidator before the term was coined Horace Wyatt - Versatile small forward Billy Williams - smooth scorer Bobby Conrad - under appreciated team leader who we blamed every loss on.
35 years later still remember some great wins in LJ - helluva a home court advantage.
Kind of sad it doesn't seem to be part of today's Clemson student experience.

Do you show up to support YOUR women's basketball team? They are just as much a part of Clemson as the men's team is.
They deserve the support.
