Trump potentially purging the generals
1

This was originally reported by the Wall Street Journal, but to save everyone the paywall, I'll link this version that credits WSJ.
This is the biggest warning sign: Trump purging the Pentagon of all top leadership and replacing with people who will put loyalty to Trump and his orders over the Constitution.
Once that happens, he can use the military for literally anything. And against anyone.

He won’t be replacing all of them. The pentagon is vastly overstuffed with too much power. The military is supposed to belong to the citizens. the vast administrative state, that maze of regulatory agencies that now exerts so much power over our lives, is simply incompatible with key elements of our constitutional order. Those agencies combine law-making, executive, and judicial functions that the Founders were adamant must be kept separate. The separation of powers was essential to their plan of limiting government and thereby protecting citizens’ liberty and property. Reducing the size of the federal government is a huge plus in my book.

He effectively has - well, MAYBE not the Senate quite yet, but that's TBD.
Donald's completely broken the House. Anybody in the GOP who so much as squeaks out of turn, they get primaried...Donald's established that only God knows how many times now. Also, the House is gerrymandered to he!! and gone...since 2010 dozens of districts have been re-drawn to the benefit of one party - it's happened in both red and blue states, but the balance is overwhelmingly to the advantage of the GOP. The Supreme Court got systematically captured by billionaires who then ruled that dark money was in fact "free speech" - that one took an astounding degree of pretzel logic and mental gymnastics - which meant that not only could various moneyed interests funnel money direct to various candidates via PAC's - political action committees - those interests didn't even have to disclose who they were.
If that sounds like legalizing corruption, well, yeah. That's exactly what it was. That case was called Citizens United vs. the United States of America...and it was brought by concerned ordinary citizens who united to challenge the Federal Gubmint....oh, who are we kidding? Citizens United was in fact the PAC of the Koch Brothers, Charles and David Koch, mega-billionaires who own this small company: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koch,_Inc.
It's probably the most important ruling of our time nobody knows about. It effectively transformed America from "We The People" to "Them With Billions" in a single stroke. And of course, it's now come out since that the Supreme Court justices who ruled for Citizens United had been bought by those very same billionaires who are now bringing their interests to the Supreme Court.
Again, if that sounds like the definition of corruption, that's exactly because it is.
As far as the Senate goes...Donald's trying. We'll see how it goes. Mitch McConnell never would bend the knee, and it remains to be seen if John Thune, McConnell's replacement as Senate Majority Leader, will. If he does...well, it's going to be an especially wild ride.

There are two very important concepts that aren't registering for you.
1
Nov 13, 2024, 11:01 AM
|
|
1. You, like many others, discount just how close Trump came in January 2021 to overturning 250 years of peaceful transfers of power.
2. The last few guardrails that stood between him doing so are being systematically removed, before he even takes office again. He now knows exactly how the system works. Pence certified the election, but what would have happened if he didn't? What do you think Vance will do when the same situation presents itself?
This is way more precarious than you're capable of understanding and acknowledging. Maybe it's because you just don't actually care and want Trump to be appointed President for life.

1. Trump didn’t come close to overturning the election. There was a riot at the Capitol, which is awful, which involved unarmed rioters. The national guard should’ve been called in as the head of the Capitol police requested of Nancy Pelosi. The fake electors stood absolutely no chance.
2. Trump isn’t eligible for reelection after this term so he won’t be running in 4 years. So Vance can do nothing. Also, he will be pushing 83 years old in November of 2028. I’ve never seen a dictator take power at 83.
You are reminding me of all of the little white girls melting down on Tik Tok. If you seriously think Trump is going to try to be a dictator you are a lunatic.

Anyone that has served in the military knows how political it is at the top in the pentagon
These guys are total swamp creatures
And if you look at the federal budget and the inefficiencies, you cannot ignore the pentagon
If we are going to compete against China, we have got to be smarter and more efficient
I also laugh, because if you told me 15 years ago that republicans would be leading the charge to clean the defense contractor graft out of the DOD while the liberals waved the Raytheon and General Dymanics banner, I would have called you bat crap crazy

GO class (i.e. "The Club") are gonna squeal like stuck pigs at having their political control decimated. All I can say is About. Darn. Time....
Just curious - where was all the outrage when Rumsfeld purged the warrior class leaders from the Pentagon and the Senior GO ranks?? Where was all the outrage when Obama did the same in favor of promoting his social military agenda?? I don't recall seeing it... but I guess promoting Bush political "yes men" and Obama political "yes men" in the ranks was acceptable.
Nope - I'm sure this is just the start of the establishment, DC Swamp caterwauling to come as the Pentagon bureaucracy gets its much needed colonoscopy. This reckoning of the current politicized military is well overdue and I welcome it.
PS...MG(R) Paul Eaton isn't some unbiased, non-political dude. He's been throwing rocks at Republicans since retiring in 2006 and has been swimming in the Clinton and Obama orbits ever since. He is one of the fossilized GO's that CNN parades out from time to time when they desperately want to present a left leaning military opinion. I find it laughable how Eaton accuses Trump of ripping at the military's "apolitical" moorings when those of his ilk dating back to the GW Bush Admin have been doing that very thing. At this point MG(R) Eaton is nothing more than a Democratic Party operative as the "VetVote.org" is a Demcoratic Party PAC that exclusively seeks Demcoratic candidates with military experience. Of course Eaton's going to oppose the Trump admin just as he has every other Republican...

I expect everyone in the Government to follow the Constitution and be loyal to the Constitution. That doesn't mean that someone can't be both loyal to President Trump AND be loyal to the Constitution at the same time.
All this pearl clutching over Trump looking to reduce the power of the Federal bureaucracy by installing people in his administration who will actively work towards his policy agenda as somehow being loyal to Trump at the expense of the Constitution is pure nonsense. EVERY President puts loyalists in cabinet positions with the expressed purpose of implementing their Presidential agenda. Just because you don't like the particular individual that is President (or their agenda) doesn't mean the people supporting/executing that President's agenda are somehow being personally loyal to Trump at the expense of the Constitution.
In regards to the military.... What makes you think demanding the retirement/resignation or the firing certain Pentagon officials/leaders that have pushed a policy agenda (which is a very politicized agenda and not war fighting focused) that is antithetical to his own is somehow not being loyal to the Constitution?? Every President puts their stamp on DoD policy and just because Trump's policy for the military is getting rid of DEI, CRT, and the other social justice agenda items is in no way a violation of the Constitution or a demand of personal fealty at the expense of the Constitution. Firing people in current leadership positions who would impede, obstruct, or refuse to carry out his legal orders/policies in the DoD is far from un-Constitutional - in fact it is well within the job description of a Commander in Chief...

Given the reports of Trump's ire towards the military...

For not putting him before the Constitution and his failed attempt to get them to comply with overturning the election, I'd say this case would be a little different.
It's wrong for any president, IMO, but this time it feels a bit more on the sinister side.
Trump demands loyalty to only one thing, and it ain't the Constitution.

I want them all loyal to the constitution, but I can't say that the ones currently there meet that criteria.

Nobody gets promoted to general by the Army/Navy/etc. It comes from presidential nomination. And they serve at the pleasure of the president. So....is this new? Did Biden replace any generals? Was that ok? Did the US just now start replacing generals?

It has to be a troll. No way this guy is this stupid. No way.
I would not want to knowingly be anywhere close to Catahooie without a vest and a sidearm. His rhetoric is similar to the guy that got caught in the bushes in Florida.
Total freak show.

You may not know this but Obama did his own purge while in office. Dozens of Generals and Admirals were forced to retire to make way for his liberal leaning supporters. This is part of the reason the military has so much DEI BS being forced down the rank and files throats.
The militray should be concerned about one thing and that is readiness. DEI, CRT and any other social experiments need to be left out of the conversation. Prepare the war fighter for just that, fighting wars.

Not really. I believe it is wrong to force out top brass to initiate and caretake social experiments. Had Obama gotten rid of officers to performing their duty to ensure their troops are war fighting ready then I would have been okay with that and was honestly happy to see some Generals be let go due to some policies they tried to push.
If Trump is doing the same as Obama and canning brass for any agenda other than troop morale, increased training and readiness then he shouldn't be doing it either. If he's removing social experiment role players then I'm all for it.

If he does it, he'll only be doing it to put in blindly loyal people who won't get in his way, or worse, agree to commit atrocities. So I'm glad you agree it's bad.
