Is this Cade that must start so badly

The same Cade that we had to take out to keep La.Tech from coming back? DJ not being very good doesn't mean Cade is ready.

Why has our coaching staff failed to develop two 5 star QBs in a row?

I think more 5* QBs are busts than actually play to that level. It's a bunch of goobers giving out stars after all.

Hunter Johnson - 5* bust (sounds like a good guy)
Spencer Rattler - 5* bust and head case at Oklahoma (throws a good ball but makes very bad decisions). Had an up and down season with S.Carolina.
JT Daniels - 5* bust at USC. Transferred to UGA and was not much good in Athens. OK now at W.VA. Maybe if Daniels stays in college for a 6th (Covid) year, then he'll end up better than DJU.
Brock Vandagriff - 5* at UGA, spent 2021 and 2022 without seeing much action. Bust? Maybe not yet, but Vandagriff isn't even UGAs primary backup behind Stetson Bennett.
Quinn Ewers - 5* who didn't work out at OH State, transferred to Texas and led the 'Horns to low-scoring losses against Alabama, OK State, and TCU. Bust? Again, maybe not yet, but he's not as good as DJU.
5* busts are not uncommon.

I don’t think the highly paid coaching staff blindly follows recruiting ranking “goobers”

Our staff chose these 5* players. So yea, misses are on them. Next excuse.

I think the guy we offered before Cade is third string at Bama and behind another freshman. Bama also has 2 top 10 type guys committed for this year. They seem to stack them on top of one another and see what shakes out.
For us, only giving out a few offers worked famously with Watson and Lawrence. That strategy sure does leave a lot less room for error though.

It is a bit early to claim that we have not properly developed Cade - the kid is still a freshman.

He was 2-of-4 for 19 yards and rushed six times for 15 yards against Syracuse. I even think Syracuse dropped any easy interception. I'm not handing the keys over with that type of performance.

you know, the skill you are trying to minimize with Cade. On a zone read, Cade doesn't look like an old lady trying to keep someone from stealing her purse when meshed with the RB like DJ does.

Those minimizing Cade's performances don't seem to realize this foundational issue. If we were just going to run it anyway, why pull DJ? Obed nailed it with a simile that made me chuckle.

And still think he can play. He's been the same player for two years. Every game looks the same. His career moment came at Notre Dame his freshman year. We all wonder where that player went. He was seen in South Bend and never seen again. Is he so fragile that getting beat up by Georgia destroyed his career? Two losses this year he was a no show. People want to blame OL, WR, blah, blah, blah. Have you seen him lock in on one receiver? Have you seen his footwork? Have you seen his inability to escape pressure? Most of his passes look like throw aways. Throws a nice fastball/knuckleball. Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. Nice guy from a nice family but a below average quarterback. Way below average. I do not understand why the staff does not go up tempo all the time. The only time DJ looks as if he's got it together is when the offense plays fast. He's not good in the standing-around-staring-at-the-sideline offense.

and yes I think he may have provided a bit of a spark. But to act like he single handedly lead us to victory is ridiculous. If Shipley does have that 50 yard TD run, I don't think we win.

dj isnt ready either....its more about id rather lose to unc and the bowl with cade starting getting much needed experience and reps vs winning by the skin of our teeth or losing with dj who will never get better as a qb

Tell that to the rest of the team - and see how fast you lose the lockeroom.

Are you forgetting the Syracuse game? I would agree he has not looked great… But he is also a true freshman. This is DJs third year
Look…I’m not a replace DJ for Cade guy. But after DJ hurt his hip, it became painfully obvious that he could not throw nearly as well as he could before the injury. I actually thought it was a disservice to DJ to leave him out there like that…. especially when you choose to get away from the run and start throwing the ball

He was bad before that. He and the WRs were terrible the entire game. I think these read routes may be the wrong direction.

It reminded me of our game at Syracuse when Kelly Bryant was our QB.

He was clearly hobbled and couldn’t even walk without limping, yet our coaches still felt he was better than Zerrick Cooper or Hunter Johnson.
It wasn’t fair to Kelly (who subsequently left the game after getting concussed) or the rest of our team.
It was also a commentary on how poorly developed our QBs were. Not much has changed, has it?

The DJ experiment shouldn't continue past this season. But if the goal is to win the game in front of you. He's the best option we have.

After 8-29 28% completion percentage 99 yards 1 TD and 1 INT, this isn't a good argument anymore. Anything is better than that.

I once heard we should start Taisun Phommachanh over DJ because he couldn't be any worse too. The DJ experiment shouldn't continue next season. It's just stupid to think a young inexperienced QB with no receivers couldn't be worse at this moment.

ignoring the fact that Cade could run round-trip from the WEZ to Littlejohn and back before DJ had even gotten to Littlejohn. If Street is determined to run the QB as much as he does, maybe get the guy who actually can run, and makes the correct call on zone reads more often than not.
