Clawson said the quiet part loudly in a very politically correct way. He was very correct in what he said and made points that most of us had not thought of. Thank you coach.

Quote of the decade:
“The guy’s been there 17 years and won 174 games, so he’s doing something right, and he’s outlasted a lot of people (and Tnetters) who have had opinions that he’s not!!!!”

The guy is telling it the way that he actually sees it, and the people that constantly say what the majority of the crowd is saying that tell me that they are followers that's not capable of having an opinion of their own and it's easier for them to just say what the others are saying, and you can't have a lot of faith in the people that would follow the crowd than the people that has their own personal opinion. Myself, I've never been comfortable with jumping on the wagon with the followers, I'm a ride alone type person with my own opinion, and I think that most of you know that's the leg that I stand on, and I've never cared a lot about what others say or think bc I know myself better than anyone else does, wham bam thank you mam/man

Guess that narrative will pissss off all of the talking heads that keep saying Dabo doesn’t do anything right since he doesn’t use the portal. Absolutely correct on the NIL causing friction in the locker room.
Think about it in terms of you working a job and suddenly the boss brings in another individual to do the same job as you are doing and he pays him, say, $50,000 more than you. Myself I would hit the portal (or leave that job) immediately. What would make the coach(es) think that this individual is worth more doing the same job and sometimes doesn’t comes close to performing the way he should. NIL should be gone. Keep doing it the right way Dabo.

No one says that Dabo doesn't do anything right.
Dabo gets paid $11 million annually. That means he gets zero immunity from criticism.

He’s obviously got a little Clemson in him. It’s hard to hide. Just spin the “a” and the “w” in his name 180 degrees and it’s right there in plain sight.

Zee. I was thinking the same thing. There'd be a lot less friction in the fanbase had Dabo explained it the way Dave just did. Yes, Dabo has essentially said the same thing but imo, just a more confrontational way. Saying things like if the administration doesn't like what I'm doing... they can get rid of me.
As i wrote in yesterday article, always had a ton of respect for Dave. I too would like him here if something happened to Dabo.
That said, I still believe the portal has value. Not all 4000 portal players are dirt bags. There are some "good" players in the portal that aren't looking for a payday, and aren't looking for immediate pt. There's value in picking up a player that has a couple good years of experience even if they're not a 4*. As Dabo likes to use frequently, the speed of the college game yada yada. Which imo is more true in the trenches, QB's, and linebackers than other positions.

of a program. See Florida State... They are among the most talented starting rosters in the ACC - most of which was bought from the portal. Yet FSU's mercenary culture is such that it can't sustain the program when the "unexpected" happened (i.e. lost to GA Tech and Boston College).
The reason Clemson managed to still win 9+ games a year during our recent DJU and offensive down years is that our culture sustained us. We had a cohesive group that all came to Clemson out of High School and went through the multiple grind years together. They were/are Tigers from the start and remain so even when things got tough. Right now FSU is finding out that a culture built on a foundation of paid prima donna's works great when everything goes your way. But when the slightest bit of turbulence hits (i.e. not getting selected for the CFP last year and losing the first game this year) things can rapidly fall apart because your "individual/all about me" transactional program culture has no true "team" moorings to rely on.

NIL didn't kill FSUs program. Getting screwed out of the playoffs last season and then picking up DJU did.

How did the so called NIL not attribute to there demise? You bought a lot of talent that were there for the money and they left them high and dry. They have been losing 15-20 players since this started. Have not grown up many players and are now not well stocked on depth. DJ or no DJ they have problems on the OL and the defense. They are just not a good team even though I do believe they will score more points with Glenn they definitely have more issues that need fixing as well.

It's not getting players from the portal that's the issue. It's NOT getting the right ones.
That's exactly supports my point.
And regardless, FSU is still an outlier in regards to transfers.
It's pretty interesting that the other transfer/NIL outlier I heard lots about last season was Colorado.
Colorado is currently 4-1. Hmmm, let's see, do we know another team with that same record right now?

he thinks the portal is great.. and NIL is great. but.. he famously busted on TAM for using NIL and he retired for a reason...
he also said Mark Ingram and Julio Jones didn't violate any rules when they went on a free fishing trip that would normally cost $1000's of dollars.
so please forgive me if i don't believe a word Saban says.

So we just need to identify the players in the portal who:
* fill some gaps in our lineup
AND
* are not "problem children" on a path to drugs, DUI, arrests... * are willing to fill those gaps, even if the gaps are 2nd and 3rd on the depth chart * are willing to sign without any guarantee of playing time unless they earn it * are willing to sign without up-front NIL guarantees * want to be at Clemson instead of somewhere else (any of the above being more important)
Pretty sure Dabo would sign these kids in a heartbeat. Why wouldn't he?
P.S. He did sign Paul Tyson from the portal under these sorts of conditions and Hunter Johnson returned to Clemson under these conditions.

Ummm... What killed FSUs program is their "Culture"... and one could say

that Norvell has never had a good culture even before he completely sold his soul to the NIL transfer portal. Go back in time to see how he started at FSU by lying about his conversations with players and having a team captain (Marvin Wilson) publicly call him out on it.
Culture is what sustains a program when the tough times hit. Clemson survived the DJU years because we have a culture of "earning" playing time and a roster full of guys that knew they were not entitled via anything but their work and performance. All of our starters had invested in Clemson through their work (from the time they were freshman) to get what they received. They weren't paid to come to Clemson for a one year stint that they then hoped to turn into a desired NFL career. Our whole team could look at the guy on their left and right and know that everyone was committed to the Clemson team and with that comes a unity that the mercenary culture cannot genuinely reproduce.
If you believe the resulting downside of a program culture that rebuilds its starting roster every year with paid NIL transfers (i.e. mercenary transactional culture) is somehow a logical fallacy (which you failed to fully explain) then enjoy your opinion...even though most of us know it is wrong.

There is no such thing as tampering. That's an obsolete way the NCAA misspelled "exploitation".
The NCAA ran the cesspool for years. Their federal law violations were the problem. The cesspool has been drained by the courts.

Common sense says yes there is the opportunity of getting better players at positions of need but right now there are zero regulations on this madness and yea you facilitate an NIL for this guy and not another then yea it is natural to start animosity and jealously in the locker room.
Bluffton likes to spout SCOTUS rulings and fair market value BS like everything is on the up and up. If one believes these deals are on the up and up then you don’t understand college football and are pretty gullible imo.
I hear the schools are not involved…BS. It probably happens every game day at some point as far as tampering. Ryan Day says they need 20 million to do business is he or is he not part of the school? And what business should he have in a true NIL?
Bluffton and a few on here may be great people and it’s nothing personal but the SCOTUS rulings imo have nothing to do with these back door deals to buy players.

and Dave Clawson is the only guy I can think.
I like that guy, a lot. I respect the job he is doing at a school that is much smaller and has less resources. Now, Wake Forest has money, plenty of it, but they do not prioritize football because they simply have a hard time competing with larger schools and always will.
With that said, I hope Clemson puts a lopsided win on the board but do it respectfully lol
