and was playing drums in the Screaming Butterflies during the time the Crowes were getting off the ground as Mr. Crowe's Garden. He knew them in passing since they played the same venues and took me to see them when I was in ATL hanging out with him. The next time I saw them they were the Black Crowes, and we were at the same aforementioned roommate's wedding in ATL in 1992. The wedding was at night, so my wife and I were riding around sightseeing and wound up by Piedmont Park and realized that the Great Atlanta Pot Festival was happening. We quickly parked and went to the park for the free festival and caught The Grapes and the Black Crowes. We actually had our elbows on the stage at one point, which was cool. The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion was released about a month after we saw that show.

I've seen them three times over the years in Charlotte, once at The Ryman, and once at at The Woods Amphitheatre at Fontanel in Nashville in July 2013 with Tedeschi Trucks Band. My nephew built the Southern Living showcase house at the entrance of the Woods Amphitheater, so we got to tailgate there and then walk into the show. He got us wristbands to get backstage after the show. The Crowes hid out but we got to hang with Tedeschi Trucks a little bit, also free drinks and food.
The Crowes are as notable for bad shows every bit as much as great ones, but I've never seen one that wasn't stellar. That's all-inclusive of the original, modified, and Robinson Brothers band lineups. They're at Ovens Auditorium in Charlotte next week, and somehow I managed to NOT pull the trigger on tickets this time around. Probably should have.

Antonio. Small venue. Chris got mad at the crowd. Then toward the end when they had their trippy Black Crowes costumed characters come out they intentionally phukked with the audience.
Also saw some semi-sucky shows with the Crowes and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band in the ATL.

“Nah man, I don’t think so, just…….(turns and sees it’s Chris Robinson asking)…..uh, you. “

to buy weed off me. I was wearing a Grateful Dead tie dye, so I guess I got profiled. I told him sorry, just here drinking. About 30 minutes later he was on stage talking about Keepin her Poop in a Jar.
Weird show, fun though, if I remember correctly.

I stood by Steve Earle at a Scorchers show one time

the entire night, just to the left of the stage. The old 328 Performance Hall, RIP. What a great venue downtown Nashville.
Nice dude, we chatted as much as we could between songs.
Shaver opened if I recall (when Eddy Shaver was alive and played lead for his daddy Billy Joe). Warner had to stop the show for a few minutes to super-glue one of his fingers as he burnt/cut it open on the strings. Steve Earle was making fun of him, that's how I remember so clearly.

He basically did a 60-second commercial on the wonders and uses for Super Glue, LOL. I've used it on cuts in a pinch ever since I saw that.
