I really thought we would rattle Winston, at least a little.

Geez the kid cruises in the stadium without a care, throws a TD right off the bat and basically flipped off the crowd and never skipped a beat. He's either got ice water in his veins or he just doesn't give a @@@@ either way. At least we helped get him out of the conference a year earlier.

if FSU had gotten down 14 points early in the game instead of us. He never had any real pressure on him.

I think we would have seen him struggle even if we punted on our first possession. Instead he didn't have time to think he was thrown on to the field with momentum on his side and his WR went up and made a play. As soon as they scored the first TD all of the pressure was lifted off his shoulders it wasn't until the 2nd quarter when the crowd got into the game that it started to affect him. Then their defense came up with a couple big stops and all he had to do was go out and have fun.

We actually ALMOST did rattle him. After he threw that pick and Breeland had the big return plus the big 15 yard penalty, had we scored after that, I truly believe that moment could have snowballed on old Jameis, but unfortunately that is not the way that series panned out, and the rest is history. That stretch when it was 17-7 and we bogged down with good field position at least on two possessions, that was the final nail in our coffin.

He was rattled and was having trouble right before he threw the pick. If we could have pulled it within a TD it might have been relevant.

We did make it rather easy for him with the turnover on the 25, or whatever. we never gave ourselves the chance to put real pressure on him.

Not to mention the ultra Downy soft coverage our defensive backs gave their receivers.

You cannot win the big ones without big lines. Our Beasley was not even a factor, and he's the best we got.

we certainly didn't do much else to rattle him.
That said, the kid deserves alot of credit for how he performed in that environment with some pretty significant post-season implications riding on the outcome.

His first touchdown was as easy as they come

No risk whatsoever in the pass to a tall receiver in the corner after a gift turnover and ideal field position. And he is surrounded by a lot of fine athletes who played great on this day, while we were for many reasons off-key. He's good an' all, but a bit over-hyped I'd say, and he has plenty of off days coming.

If that first pass was "easy" like you say then any of us could make that throw.
That first TD was in the PERFECT place. Yes he is throwing to a 6'6" receiver. But he put the ball about 9-10' in the air and the receiver went up and got it. A foot or two lower and the DB might just break it up.
To say that throw was easy is just ridiculous. It was a phenomenal throw and set the tone for the game in the first 2 minutes.

albeit, as I said, it was a safe throw out in the corner to a great big receiver. If he errs it is high, and no harm down b/c it is out of bounds. I'm sorry you missed this point.
Obviously, no one on this board can make any of the plays these players are making, so I don't know what you're reaching for on that.
When someone gets some pressure on Mr. Winston (which we were not able to do) and things are not rosy back there in the pocket, and he faces a little adversity, let's talk then.

and we also had 26 first downs in the game. The only stat that mattered was that we turned the ball over 4 times. Most importantly we turned the ball over 2 times in the first few minutes that lead to 14 quick points. The game changed from there and neither you nor I can say how it would have gone after if that didn't happen.

there is a very simple reason we did not rattle him--it's called terrible defensive sets. We needed to show him a variety of blitz packages, stunts on the DL etc. We did none of that until it was too late. Before Coach V came to Tigerland there was a question about how he called the sets. I now see what the critics were talking about. When we sit back on our heels and play off of receivers, we get beat. When we play aggressive we win. Sure we might give up a long play but we get more QB sacks, better pass coverage, etc. etc. Think about it and you'll come to the same conclusion. Very aggressive D wins!

Didn't really help because our DB was 6 or 7 inches shorter. If you can't match up in the secondary, you have to play off. Same issue we had last year at times.

I saw lots of attempts to blitz, they just all failed. Corners coming off the edge, LB's trying to come up the middle, just nothing worked. I think we had him rattled slightly after the pick and we had multiple chances to score inside our 50, the crowd noise was starting to effect their offense they had several false starts in that stretch. We were also finally able to get a few hits on Winston, not sacks but at least contact. The defense held as much as they were going to be able to and I think FSU finally realized even if we got the ball we were not going to score and that's when it was over IMO

Easy to complete passes.

When your wide receivers are 5 inches taller and faster than the DB's, and the T.E. is always wide open. Seriously, I think FSU could have won the game just throwing to O'Leary every play. I still don't think we realize the T.E. is an eligible receiver.

Knew O'Leary was going to be tough to stop coming into the game. T.E's have hurt us all year and that guy is a beast.

He made some plays where we just failed to acknowledge his existence. If I was to gameplan against Clemson you would see a bunch of throws to the T.E., Fullback, and RB. We always forget about those guys (looking at you linebackers)

are to busy getting caught up in the line. Seems like that happens a lot. If its a run they stop it most of the time but a sweep or pass they get burned because no one is staying home.
