when did Lowe's credit card quit 5% off on sale items?

Aug 15, 2019, 7:10 AM

they had a credit card promo Sat, 10% off using your card. We'd been waiting to buy a couple cabinets to hang over the washer & dryer, and they were 10% off regular price. So we trotted over there to buy, and learnt at checkout they no longer give extra discount using your Lowe's card on sale items. I guess most of the stuff I buy there is not on sale, but it's the gall dang principle o the thing. That's the only reason I got their stupid card.

Lowes is crashing. I've mentioned it a few times.

Really, they're in trouble.

The Home Depot self checkout

lanes and just how fast those what seem to be 80" monitors/machines are, will put Lowe's out of business. They are so awesome.

same day is even better. Already in the buggy, checked out. Just roll it to the car and go.

When I tried it at Lowe’s it was next day and they had look in a couple of places to find it.

They'll put Lowe's out of business because they sell better

quality stuff. Home Depot was the one place that had a threaded bolt that exactly fit my 300 year old bed.

I don't think they'll go under due to that

12 month no interest financing on their card. How many Bubba and Darlene's buy $2000 washing machines because they think they can get it paid off in time only to find out the $30 a month won't cut it?

Well, they also laid off several thousand employees

Cut that expense too. They're hurting, promise. I can just tell from the store, like 2 months ago. Just now reading about what I had strongly suspected.

It goes a lot further back than that.

I've discussed this one a few times as well. Lowes and HD have done a big flip in the past year. Lowes used to be the nicer store to shop in, with better layouts, betters products, and more friendly employees. Changed about 2 years ago.

Biggest issue was deciding that their people were to be the first line of cuts. All the store pros (the guys who knew windows/appliances, etc and helped arrange installs) were laid off or spread too thin, so the store knowledge base disappeared. Then they started screwing their contractors, so all home service quality went to crap. Lastly they've started short staffing the stores, and if you can find an employee at Lowes these days, their attitude usually confirms how they're being treated.

Add to that the fact that they just aren't price competitive anymore. I can't remember the last thing I bought at Home Depot that wasn't notably cheaper than Lowes. Add to that the fact that HD is teeming with employees (long-time ones too who know their #$#$) who are helpful, and it's an easy decision to shop there.

They got in this mess by making some really poor choices in terms of acquisitions and not managing expenses (look at their Taj Mahal corporate campus for an example), and all these recent poor moves were made when they brought in the JC Penny CEO last year.

Home Depot is eating their lunch now, and I'm fine with it.

I don't doubt this one bit, but the stores I go to

Aug 15, 2019, 9:19 AM

are the opposite. I used to frequent the ones on Wade Hampton, now the ones in Cherrydale. Lowe's folks are super helpful and will even approach you if you are there at noonish during the week. Lawnmowers seemed to have the same price points. That was the biggest purchase outside of the washer and dryer I've made.

The Home Depot is a big cavernous, uninviting mess.
