some things we did last night, any coach could would not stand for. One, if you have NCAA divison 1 guards who are scared to shoot a three from the top of the key, they might as well be on the bench. Two, if you got out rebounded by 10 in the first half, you half to do two things. First, shooters HAVE TO FOLLOW their shot.https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/19315350 I have said it before, shooters know better than anyone on the court where the ball is going, yet our guys get in a home run trot as soon as it goes up. We could have had a few more rebounds last night if we only did this one fundamental thing. Second, when you are down 10 to 12 in the second half and you are on the line...YOU CANNOT VACATE THE LANE BECAUSE YOU ARE AFRAID A PLAYER WILL GET A CHEAP FOUL (But, I can see why Brownell is scared because he hasn't been able to stop PJ in four years). And third, you can't stop playing defense with 2 or 3 seconds to go on the shot clock and we did it all night long...

not following the shot has been my biggest criticism of Brad over the years. He only likes Defense.

I thought you were about to give an intimate story with your poke, prod and stick as a response to LLB talking about cuddling your wife. I know, some things are better left unsaid but giving an update on BP was not where I thought you were headed.

Brad would probably make a better realtor than coach too.

I know several discussions have come up in the past about shoot and run. Some of the so called experts say it's a good strategy because Brad is the defensive guru. I don't know enough about bball to say one way or another, but I do watch alot of teams win doing what you said.
Last season Brad lost some ugly early season games that ultimately kept us from getting in the tournament. He lost those games using a 3 guard set. Not until late December when discussions ad nauseum on tnet about going big and playing inside out did Brad adopt that strategy. We went on a wonderful run.
Lastly, and most importantly, ole Spud knows his bball. So if Spud weighs in on it, I hold that opine in high regards.

Following your shot is only a fundamental thing if you're playing before the 90s or below high level high school ball. Modern basketball fundamentals dictate that if you're shooting from above the free throw line extended you rotate back to take away transition opportunities. Following your shot not only throws off form, it's a gamble that more often than not is going to open up easy buckets for your opponent.

lights out, but, BC got 15 more rebounds than us. We had a ton of one and dones on offense. BC, had several possessions where they got three or four shots. They got 15 more rebounds and at their 38 percent shooting percentage last night ( i think that is about what it was) that is about 10 to 12 more points right there...If were got 7 more rebounds last night and got Girard 5 more three point shots...it is a different game.
And one more thing about backing out of the lane for our own FTs. I think it does three things. First, we have ZERO chance to get a ball that bounces off the rim over the first guys head. Second,it takes away the psychological comfort zone of the shooter who has had his teammates in the lane with him all night. Third, it makes the shooter think something is different about THIS FREE THROW....THIS MUST BE A CRITICAL FREE THROW.... THink of it like in baseball when a batter has a 2-1 count on him or maybe even a 3-1 count in a tight game..and all of a sudden in the pitcher's wind up...they show BUNT. It is nothing but a ploy to psyche out the pitcher...In my opionion, we do that to ourselves.
And one last thing, in the first half last night we were down 9. BB puts in Godfrey and Beadle. We go on an 8-0 run, ball goes out of bounds I think and the clock stops. BB immediately takes them out...Partner, we're on an EIGHT OH run....Don't do anything until that changes.....In my business and all sales business it is called,"Going past the close...". the deal is done but you gotta keep tinkering with it until you blow it up....
Anyway, I'll get back in my lane and stick to the unsolicited fishing posts...

Clark comes in red hot and hits a 3 and a nice 2 back to back, and Brad pulls him after 90 seconds in the game.

It's a fallacy to suggest if we'd followed our shots we'd have gotten the rebounds. We may have ended up losing by more by giving up a bunch of fast break points. We've played the same way all year and have been one of the better rebounding teams in the nation. We lost the rebounding battle two nights ago because we were listless and played with no effort, not because we weren't following shots.
There's a reason following your shot from the wing and top of the key have been coached out of the game and it's not because it's some lost art or whatever.

I have no problem with the philosophy of having the 3 point shooter be the first man back on defense. As long as 3 of the other 4 guys are crashing the boards. We had no one moving toward a rebounding position most of the night.

Kelvin Sampson has a poster in the locker room at Houston which states: "Our offense begins when a shot is missed." Watch them play and you see that they really play ball that way. Maybe BB should hang a banner in the Clemson locker room which says: "Our offense ENDS when a shot is taken."
