Until Clemson commits to the run, both on offense and defense, Clemson will NOT beat teams with NFL talent on defense. This high-flying passing attack works great against the eight to ten high school teams Clemson plays every year, but championship teams can convert on third and one by running up the middle, and stop an opposing offense on third and one by pushing the o-line backwards. Look at ND, Alabama, and UGA. Those guys can run the ball, and they can stop the run. When you can run the ball, you can set up the pass. When you can stop the run, you can disguise your coverage. It doesn't work very well the other way around. Football is a physical sport, and Clemson is simply not physical enough. Clemson needs to find a coach who is committed to the run, both offensively and defensively, and they need to recruit the guys to fit the system. It's going to take a few years for the transition to work, but it's the only way that Clemson will ever compete with the big boys.
I agree. When Swearinger hit Ellington and got penalized for taunting, it ticked me off. But if you think about it, that smash mouth attitude is what wins games. We need to bring a little bit of that attitude to our games.
