I went to a panthers game one Sunday but since I traveled to Charlotte that Friday I caught a Johnson C Smith vs Fayetteville State game. There’s a kid named Julian Milligan (sp) that’s a running back for Fayetteville state, who’s an absolute stud. Not sure why he didn’t get any D1 offers but from his social media, he’s entered the portal. A big, fast back with hands. He’s definitely gonna play on Sundays if the right eyes see him, hopefully we consider him but I’m not sure how it works

DE is the primary need. I like the young talent of Hoffler and Mayo, but we need someone ready to go and produce right away in what could be Parker and Woods last year next season.

When Duke was filled with 6 year seniors, all I heard was how experienced they are. Heard that argument for a lot of schools the last couple of years, in particular announcers playing up teams who don't have a football history. There's a pretty good track record of these teams pulling off upsets. They don't have 5 stars, and very few if any 4 stars. Heck 3 stars are probably their studs!
Then I hear how any good players in the portal are already called for. OK, they are out. But other players labeled as 'problems' are not worth pursuing for whatever reason. Well if experience makes a team better, wouldn't it help a team to go after an experienced 2 star or even 1 star to fill some spots?

it's definitely taken some of the fun of it. We can sit here and complain about it and not participate, or adapt and catch up with the way the game has changed. Hopefully Dabo adapts to the modern era and recruits a few people through the portal.

Think you are wrong on Dabo feeling the pressure to use the portal. Dabo doesn’t feel the pressure to do anything that he does not feel is right for the team. He built this dynasty at Clemson and unless a portal guy comes in that fits the program he is not going to take him. Personally that is why I love Dabo and the way he does things. He is a proven WINNER. Is not going to change something that is working. He is who he is and has no intentions of trying to change himself. We have the best coach in America. He builds good MEN.

I agree. Like it or not, Dabo is going to do it his way. I'm not sure the portal is part of his plan. Not sure if we can count on any help there. Pretty frustrating for us fans, but he is the "boss", and he is pretty stubborn about certain parts of his program.

From people that are not fully informed... (including me)
The impact players enter the portal with their destination already picked, or already involved in a bidding war. Could we be more active in the bidding wars? I honestly don't know enough about how our NIL finances work. For long term consistency the portal is fool's gold right now. I think that the future is teams will need a "front office" like pro teams to scour free agency to help coaches hit the portal where they miss on recruiting each year. The problem is that the kids in the portal aren't looking to be "depth". That's probably why they left their last school. We will see how serious we are in the portal this year. We can promise real playing time to a DE or LB. Maybe even a RB. Once again though, we have to be more attractive than the other guys...

I think Dabo grabs 203 players from the portal, but ZERO starters. Which means we're taking leftovers no one else wants.... just more players with clipboards on the sidelines who will never see significant action. And that's not using the portal to it's fullest potential.
