There's no hiding the bias anymore. If you're not SEC or ND, you stink.
A few that stick out like a sore thumb:
#3 Alabama at 5-2 #5 Ole Miss at 5-2 #8 Oregon undefeated #23 SC at 4-3 (at least they lose close these days I guess) #32 Auburn with an impressive 2-5 record. Huge wins over Alabama A&M and New Mexico

Wonder what "metrics" they use to arrive at these conclusions.

This throw a wrench in the works of what many want to believe. Many...including the orginial poster think there is some group of people picking teams. FPI is math. It takes PF, PA, win/loss records of opponents, margin of victory etc. Things that hurt Clemson in FPI is the fact that most of the teams we have beat have dismal statistical records across the board. Its not some opinion based list and becomes mnore meaningful as the season progresses.
FPI is pretty much close to betting odds. Why that is important is anyone that setting betting odds has a vested interest in being objective because they have money on the line if they are wrong.
Right now today, betting odds to make the playoffs ranked #1-#25 This is probably the most accurate rating for the top 25 teams. But just like FPI it will change drastically not just on the top 25 teams win loss, but on their past/future opponents win loss and game stats as well as injuries to key players etc. There is no favorite conference in this...they don't want to lose money because they love love love the SEC. That would be foolish. 1.Oregon 2.Georgia 3.Ohio State 4.Texas 5.Penn St 6.Miami 7.Clemson 8.Miami 9. Nortre Dame 10 Iowa St 11. Alabama 12. LSU 13. Boise St 14.Texas A&M 15.Indiana 16. Kanasas St 17. Ole Miss 18. BYU 19. SMU 20. Missouri 21. BYU 22.Tulane 23. Memphis 24. Colorado 25.Illinois
Since Carolina was mentioned they place #40

And both FPI and SP+ are pretty high on 4-3 Louisville, with the Cards at No. 17 on FPI and No. 21 on SP+. I would think the recruiting rankings element would knock SMU a bit but they're No. 16/17.
5-2 Ole Miss is No. 3 with SP+.
Not saying they're not curious ratings, but they are predictive measures and not necessarily based on just the data from the action so far.

Anytime someone uses the word "metrics" when it comes to sports makes me want to vomit. Most of it sounds like Tim Bourett on acid. The tigers are 3-0 on a Saturday in October after an open date and before a Thursday night game when the wind is from the SE and it's above 45 degrees. But only after Buster Crabbes birthday.
Lies-D**n lies and statistics.
Like all the BS they use in golf. Launch angle, curvature, ball speed, apex.....Low score wins folks.

And concentrating on those things gives you low scores. Statistics matter in sports. Don’t believe me ask the nba how many games have been won off half time statistics.

Exactly why Clemson is suing to get out of ACC.

As time goes on, the separation between P2 and ACC will grow wider and wider every year.
Anybody who isn't cheering for Clemson to get out of ACC, and the sooner the better, is naive at best.

Close games? They declared victory after losing to us by 21pts a few years ago.

bowl nor CFP projections, considering their involvement with several conferences.
As far as I'm concerned, their job is to present sports' events, and let America decide everything else. That they seek to control is exactly the reason why so many people despise them, as a network, other than watching events.

Northern Illinois and Vandy. My household rule now is "if ESPN supports it, I detest it". I cannot think of ONE thing Disney and it's bunch of weirdos get right nowadays.
Disney used to be a respected institution, now the freaks and sickos have ruined kids movies, sports and all things entertainment. If a meteor hit Bristol, CT I would go to watch it burn.

At the end of the day these numbers are just rankings/metrics. It doesn't matter what esecpn thinks. Games are going to be played and things are going to change. When are people going to stop caring about these polls? The only poll/ranking that matters is the final CFP ranking. That is it. Nothing else. Does ESPN have an influence, unfortunately yes. But arguing or complaining about any poll/ranking is pointless unless it is the final CFP ranking.

Yes because Vegas would have Ohio state favored against anyone in the country on a neutral field.

You should listen to Josh page. Power rankings are not polls or standings they are different. The reason Oregon is 8 is because as of right now all those teams ahead would be favored on a neutral field if the nets were released today. We have seen how west coast matches up with south east. It’s just not that pretty. Hardly ever is.
