Clemson players that had NBA careers longer than five years

make a relatively small group. Going from shortest to longest:
Trevor Booker - 8
Greg Buckner - 10
Chris Whitney - 11
Larry Nance - 13
Elden Campbell - 15
Dale Davis - 16
Horace Grant - 17
Tree Rollins -18
To me, a couple of surprises on that list. I hardly even remember Chris Whitney at Clemson. And, as far as Clemson big men, Elden Campbell would be WAY down the list. It just goes to show, you never know what specific skill set will make it in the "Big Leagues". Some of it is skill, and some of it, just as in the NFL, is luck at being drafted by the right team into the right situation.

Elden is Clemson's all-time scoring leader.

He was first team All-ACC, and was the leading scorer on the ACC Regular Season Championship Team in 1989-90. He ranks 2nd in blocked shots all-time for Clemson behind Tree, and 7th in rebounds.
Truth is, he was a great player at Clemson.

immediately to mind when thinking of all time Clemson big men. But, truth be told, most of our great big men were power forwards, not centers. Even on the team you referred to, I considered Horace Grant the leader of that team.

Horace was not on the 89-90 team - he finished in 87.

I started Clemson fall of '88 and the best basketball I can remember was the Elden C. and Dale D. era. We camped for tickets for a couple yrs. This was when the ACC was the supreme conference in basketball and we had some huge home games.

Pretty sure Chris Whitney was a Juco transfer, so not sure how long he played at Clemson.
He was a backup on Washington's team forever and didn't get into games much.
I had no idea he played that long.

Too bad about the car wreck. He was talented. He would've been high on that list otherwise, I'm sure.

not surprising at all.
But incredibly sad - no doubt - especially considering what we pay for the doorknob.

Dang, I didn't realize Tree made it 18 years. Good for him; he was a very nice guy.
